Deadline reports that The Franchise has been cancelled by HBO after one season. “We’re so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with the tremendously talented team behind The Franchise, especially Sam Mendes, Jon Brown, Armando Iannucci, and this hilarious ensemble of actors,” said an HBO spokesperson. “While we won’t be moving forward with another season, we look forward to collaborating with all of them in the future.“
Created by Jon Brown and executive produced by Armando Iannucci and Sam Mendes (who directed the first episode), the comedy series follows the crew of an unloved superhero franchise movie as they fight for their place in a savage and unruly cinematic universe. Although The Franchise received decent reviews from critics, the audience just wasn’t there to justify another season. So the news of this cancellation isn’t too surprising. American Horror Story is one of FX’s most successful series to date, airing for 12 cycles (and 132 episodes) since 2011 and winning 17 Emmys along the way. In January 2020, the cable network made the bold decision to renew Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk‘s horror anthology series for three more installments — Season 11, Season 12, and Season 13. That ensures the flagship show will be on our TV screens through at least the year 2025. Scary good!

Steve Carell once handed out more than laughs; he handed out spankings. And one Marvel star owes their rise to a hilariously awkward moment in The Office. Yes, the infamous spanking scene might’ve made audiences cringe, but it was a career-launching jackpot for this actor.

2024 was a crowded year for television that had its share of misfires, but among the droves of disposable content was some stellar horror programming – from “Evil” to “The Creep Tapes” – that celebrates the genre’s versatility.
Television has reached a curious inflection point where what was once heralded as the medium’s Golden Age has turned into a daunting obligation where there’s far too much content to consume and the lengthy gaps between short seasons is enough to strip away even the most extreme enthusiasm. TV is in an interesting phase at the moment and while many prestige streaming series have struggled, the horror genre has thrived and turned out deeply captivating and creepy material. Television remains a safe haven for the horror genre and 2024 was a strong year for both brand new horror and returning series that are sure to entertain genre fans who are looking for something...

The 2011 horror anthology series "American Horror Story," co-created by Brad Falchuk and TV juggernaut Ryan Murphy, is presented in a novel fashion. Each one of its 12 seasons stands as a wholly independent 10-to-13-episode miniseries, with each one featuring a unique set of characters and a new timeframe/location. Murphy and Falchuk select a traditionally Halloween-y horror topic or premise -- a haunted house, vampires, a witch coven, a circus sideshow, extraterrestrials, cultists -- and then spin it out in their own sensationalistic idiom. "American Horror Story" tends to be salacious and stylized, and its sheer variety have kept audiences coming back for years.
Note: "American Horror Story" is not to be confused with the 2021 series "American Horror Stories," which is actually a spinoff. "Stories" is a more traditional "Tales from the Crypt"-like anthology show, with each episode featuring an original story and its own unique cast of actors.

Can “Matlock” crack the case of the disappearing SAG Awards broadcast nominations? The CBS drama has been an out-of-the-box hit this fall, earning acclaim for star Kathy Bates and even already landing a Season 2 pickup. The folks at CBS Studios are bullish enough on its awards chances — particularly for the beloved Bates — that they’ve made it a priority in the kudo space this year.
And honestly, as it should be. Kathy Bates is an Oscar winner (for 1991’s “Misery”) and has earned three more Oscar noms since then — as recently as 2020, for “Richard Jewell.” The breadth of Bates’ work can be illustrated by her two wildly different Emmy wins: For sitcom “Two and a Half Men” in 2012 and the creepy series “American Horror Story” in 2014. Bates has also won two SAG Awards, in both TV and film.

Television has always been a reflection of society’s darker fascinations, but the rise of serial killers and true crime has taken center stage in recent years.
From fictional antiheroes like Dexter Morgan and Joe Goldberg to dramatizations of real-life horrors like Dahmer and The Act, our screens are filled with stories of murder, manipulation, and mayhem.
But why do these characters captivate us so deeply? And where is the line between exploring human darkness and exploiting real-life tragedy?

Back in June 2019, J.J. Abrams struck a massive overall deal that would keep him in the fold of Warner Bros., his home studio since 2006.
The five-year pact, pegged at $500 million at the time, had a unique structure that allowed Abrams to draw from a significant pool of money to sign other writers to overall deals. That positioned the multi-hyphenate behind “Felicity” and “Lost” as not just a content creator but a mogul whose Bad Robot production company would incubate the next generation of storytellers, with Abrams and his wife, Katie McGrath, overseeing the stable. Five and a half years later, Warner Bros. doesn’t have much to show for all the coin that it showered on Abrams, even as the value of the deal dropped by half because Bad Robot failed to reach the financial and output benchmarks that would have triggered the full $500 million. With less leverage than it...

Last week, Jyoti Amge, the world’s shortest woman at 2’1″, appeared on This Morning Show in the U.K. to celebrate the 20th annual World Record Day. Jyoti has held the record since 2011, when she turned 18, and she says it has always been a dream come true.
In her interview with Cat Deely and Dermot O’Leary, Jyoti candidly discussed her challenges and accomplishments. Her translator, Amol Pangul, shared that “the best part of her life was being the Guinness World Record holder, which gave her confidence.”
Because of the Guinness record, she grew her acting career, starring in the fourth season of American Horror Story: Freak Show, where she appeared as Ma Petite.
Despite her many accomplishments, Jyoti still faces everyday struggles, such as needing help from friends or family whenever she leaves the house and navigating the challenge of dressing like an adult while only fitting into toddler sizes.

While it may not always get lumped in with the greatest, longest-running animated shows of all time like "The Simpsons" or "South Park," Seth MacFarlane's "Family Guy" does deserve to be in that conversation. First premiering on Fox in 1999, the animated sitcom has survived cancellation multiple times and MacFarlane has no plans to end the show currently. 23 seasons and well over 400 episodes deep and the Griffin family isn't going anywhere.
Relatively few scripted shows in the history of television have lasted more than 20 seasons, but those that do have low points to go along with the highs that keep viewers interested. It's just the nature of the beast. When it comes to "Family Guy," what is the lowest moment? If IMDb is to be believed, that moment came in 2019 during the show's 17th season with an episode titled "You Can't Handle the Booth!

Going home for the holidays can be messy, but it certainly gets way messier if you unexpectedly run into your ex.
Why would that happen? Well, in the case of Avery (Lindsay Lohan) and Logan (Ian Harding) in Netflix’s latest Christmas offering “Our Little Secret,” the answer is sheer coincidence. As it turns out, the two are now dating a pair of siblings, unbeknownst to them.

With "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew," Lucasfilm is moving George Lucas' universe into the realm of kid-centric adventure stories -- a genre marked by classics and modern hits like "The Goonies" and "Stranger Things." Even before the "Skeleton Crew" trailer was released, fans were already drawing comparisons between the official description and Amblin Entertainment features like "E.T." and "Super 8."
The show is now almost upon us, and those comparisons have certainly held true. Of course, you can't have a youthful, ragtag adventure without a proper band of young rascals and plenty of adults both benevolent and mischievous to get in their way. The multigenerational cast of "Skeleton Crew" is a big part of its appeal, with tons of young stars and Hollywood veterans alike making their "Star Wars" debuts. It's a lot of new faces, but don't worry, we've got you covered.

Six days before the debut of “Shōgun” last February, John Landgraf was worried about the “Endless Scroll.”
Sitting with his feet propped up on a low table in his office on the Fox lot in Los Angeles, the longtime head of FX explained what he meant with his signature soft-spoken, brainy intensity. The “endless scroll” is not a talisman from “Shōgun” or an artifact of the Middle Ages but rather a symptom of our times. It refers to the never-ending stream of content that so many of us now have at our fingertips.
When asked if he was worried viewers wouldn’t turn out for the most expensive production in the 30-year history of FX, Landgraf paused to think. Any butterflies he had about the show’s launch, he said finally, were wrapped up in his larger concern about the “endless scroll” effect that may be training us to have shorter and shorter attention spans.

Theres always that strange transition period in horror movies where things can get lost in the shuffle. The 70s and its nihilism broke late in the decade to swerve into masked killers and the slasher genre. That heyday was far shorter than people remember but the late 80s did something similar in transitioning to straight to video smash successes and a crazy number of sequels and adaptations. That well, too, would dry up, and when Wes Craven released Scream in 1996, the landscape would shift to smart slashers and then found footage. The teen slasher era was first with things like Urban Legend, Scream sequels, Disturbing Behavior, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and hell, even Final Destination posits literal death as a slasher villain. These are more along the lines of the top shelf example but one that could qualify for a best horror movie you never saw And...

“I had made the decision — about a week prior to getting the call from Sam — that I was going to take a long sabbatical from musical theater again,” says Jackson, also known by TV fans for his work on “Doctor Odyssey,” “Call Me Kat,” “American Horror Story” and “30 Rock.” “I had taken about a 10-year break before, and I was feeling like, ‘Ok, I’ve scratched that itch a lot.’ I just did ‘Once Upon a Mattress’ and ‘Into the Woods’ and I was done. Very few shows can make a splash like Matlock, but a splash was definitely made. There’s at least one incredible new cast every year, and we were lucky enough that this one had the legendary Kathy Bates.
She’s not alone either, as industry vet and America’s favorite grandpa, Beau Bridges, is joining her. But what about the rest of the cast and characters?
We already know all we need about Kathy Bates and Beau Bridges. Now it’s time to figure out where some of these other familiar faces in Matlock are from.
(Sonja Flemming/CBS)
There will be no leading the witness here — just straight, hard facts.
What do you say we stop jury tampering and get right to some opening statements?
I’m also out of lawyer jargon, so let’s get to it.

Cara Delevingne is giving further insight into her friendship with Taylor Swift, which includes being roommates for a brief time.
The model and actress sat down with Nikki Glaser for an Interview Magazine feature. While speaking with the comedian — who received high praise for her roast of Tom Brady during the Netflix special earlier this year — Delevingne asked Glaser if there was someone else that she’d like to be a part of roasting and/or see roasted.
“I mean, as a Swiftie, I would love a roast of Taylor Swift,” the 2025 Golden Globes host said. “But I actually wouldn’t because I would be angry if anyone was really mean.”
The Only Murders in the Building guest star agreed but noted that Swift could take it. “The thing about Taylor, though, is I’ve seen her do a speech at someone’s wedding before, and it was a roast,...

The 18th century French novel “Les Liaisons Dangereuses” has withstood dozens of adaptations to stage and screen, including the prestigious 1988 film “Dangerous Liaisons” and the cheesy yet beloved 1999 teen film “Cruel Intentions.”
With Prime Video’s new eight-part “Cruel Intentions” series remake, author Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ story finally hits the wall. Here, both setting and story seem outdated, with the writers’ bids to stay true to skeevier elements of the novel and (especially) 1999 movie conflicting with attempts to update storylines for a modern audience.
The show opens at a stately, vaguely Southern-looking mansion filled with overdressed young women — a promising start for fans of the similarly sorority-set “Scream Queens” or of “American Horror Story: Coven,” or even “The Bachelor.”
But the new “Cruel Intentions” does not yield any supernatural or crime thriller chills, or even enough backstabbing among romantic rivals to inspire us to pick a side. Instead, it...

Emma Roberts, In A Candid Moment, Linked To Her Secret Tumblr Account ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Emma Roberts had a secret Tumblr account—and nope, it wasn’t for fan art. Forget those picture-perfect Instagram posts; this was where the American Horror Story star went full incognito mode. You wouldn’t find her dazzling followers here—just a tiny, exclusive club of six people. The catch? They had no idea she was famous. “I was spending too much time on Instagram, that’s for sure,” Roberts admitted, but then she dropped the real gem: “I’m also a secret Tumblr lover.” Imagine keeping your corner of the internet for pure, unfiltered happiness. That was Emma Roberts’ vibe—and we were all about it.

Singer/songwriter Lady Gaga didn’t have anything to do with the first season of the hit Netflix Addams Family series Wednesday, but when video clips of Jenna Ortega’s “Goo Goo Muck” dance scene went viral, many fans replaced The Cramps’ song “Goo Goo Muck” with a sped-up version of Lady Gaga’s song “Bloody Mary.” So Wednesday and Lady Gaga have been connected for a while now – and that connection is going to be deepened with the now-in-production season 2, as Deadline reports that Lady Gaga has been added to the cast of the show! Details on the character she’ll be playing have not been revealed.
Wednesday comes to us from Millar Gough Ink, Tim Burton Productions, Toluca Pictures, and MGM Television, and is described as a comedic, supernaturally-infused coming-of-age series that follows the teenage girl’s years as a student at Nevermore Academy, where she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability,...

Pop star Lady Gaga will appear in the upcoming second season of Netflix’s hit show Wednesday. She will join the show’s already famous ensemble group. Entertainment Weekly first reported the news, saying that Gaga is currently shooting her part in Europe.
The hiring comes after an exciting link between Gaga and the show. At the 2023 Golden Globes, Jenna Ortega, who leads the show, said she wanted Gaga to be in it. Variety quoted Ortega as saying, “If Lady Gaga were to be a part, I think it would have to be two monsters that understand each other.”
Fans are looking forward to the new season, which looks like it will be darker. Catherine Zeta-Jones plays Morticia Addams. She said the next season will be “bigger and more twisted.” Ortega said that the show will focus less on love plots like the last season did and more on scary ones.

While no one has it on lock the exact character he will be playing in the show, there’s reports his character will be that of a crazy genius-type person. So maybe like the type ‘Harry Potter‘s’ Daniel Radcliffe played in ‘Lost City’ and “Now You See Me 2,’ minus the million dollars.

Daniel Zolghadri is best known for his roles in independent films and television. He started gaining attention for his role in the movie ‘Eighth Grade’ (2018) and later starred in ‘Funny Pages’ (2022), where he played a quirky aspiring cartoonist.
For our readers, however, the actor is recognizable for his role in ‘American Horror Story,’ and Prime Video’s ‘Tales from the Loop.’
Now according to Deadline, the actor will star in a new horror movie with an interesting premise. Zolghadri is apparently negotiating for the lead role in The Temple, a sci-fi horror movie by Canadian writer-director team Yonah Lewis and Calvin Thomas.

The best classic rock songs often have sad backstories. For example, Donovan’s “Season of the Witch” was inspired by the dark side of the 1960s. The tune wasn’t actually a hit at the time, but it’s become one of the most ubiquitous songs of its era.
Donovan’s ‘Season of the Witch’ presaged the rise of hard drugs
During a 2011 interview with The Guardian, Donovan explained how “Season of the Witch” foretold the end of the 1960s. “I think someone asked Roger McGuinn [of The Byrds] about the ’60s, and he said: ‘Well it lasted until December ’66 and something dark happened,'” the “Mellow Yellow” singer said. “All the hard drugs came in and something started happening that was big business.”
“Season of the Witch” was one of many Donovan songs that straddled the lines between folk music and psychedelia. Donovan discussed why he formed his signature sound.

Exclusive: Jennifer Holland, who has played Agent Emilia Harcourt in James Gunn’s DC movie The Suicide Squad and spinoff series Peacemaker, has signed with Strand Entertainment for representation.
Holland has reprised the tough-as-nails Harcourt in such DC movies as Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
Season 2 of Peacemaker began production back in the spring. The series follows John Cena’s Suicide Squad anti-hero as he’s enlisted for the enigmatic A.R.G.U.S. black ops squad for “Project Butterfly”. His mission is to find and eliminate parasitic butterfly-like creatures who have taken over human bodies. The second season will reportedly premiere after Gunn’s Superman which doesn’t hit theaters until July 11, 2025. Gunn will direct some episodes with Greg Mottola directing others. Tim Meadows is part of season 2.
Holland also starred opposite Chad Michael Murray in the CMT series Sun Records. She also appeared in American Horror Story...

One of the most popular classic rock songs for the Halloween season is Donovan’s “Season of the Witch.” The “Hurdy Gurdy Man” singer once said the track was “prophetic.” When asked to explain the song’s meaning, he didn’t mention anything about real witches. Instead, he connected “Season of the Witch” to a major American subculture.
Donovan’s ‘Season of the Witch’ was about ‘a darkness that was falling’
During a 2004 interview posted on Best Classic Bands, the “Mellow Yellow” singer explained the meaning of “Season of the Witch.” “It was about beatniks out to make it rich,” he recalled. “It was bohemia infiltrating the popular culture. It was tongue in cheek, but also it was about a darkness that was falling. That darkness was the freedoms that I spoke of, that opened the doors, and the Beats in the ’50s who helped us speak what we wanted...

Some classic rock songs have more layers than you might expect. For example, Donovan’s “Season of the Witch” might seem like a light song for Halloween, but Donovan actually has some very strong opinions on witchcraft. He also doesn’t seem to have the most positive appraisal of Christianity.
‘Season of the Witch’ singer Donovan follows his own cocktail of spirituality
First, a little background. During a 1997 interview with South Coast Today, the “Mellow Yellow” singer said his personal belief system combines Buddhism, goddess worship, and Celtic paganism. Many modern pagans do witchcraft or at least hold a sympathetic view of it. Furthermore, it’s not uncommon for modern pagans — particularly those living in the Western world — to be critical of Christianity.
During a 2018 interview with Goldmine, Donovan said he got a lot out of books about meditation. “These books were hidden in the West,” he said. “They were not available.

Co-directors Brian Netto and Adam Schindler’s Don’t Move got me interested with the fact it was produced under Sam Raimi’s production banner with the man himself serving as one of the producers and of course, boasting a high-concept storytelling hook for a horror-thriller genre: What if you find your whole body completely paralyzed?
But the result of the paralysis has nothing to do with an accident, stroke, spinal cord injury or even nerve disorders. Instead, it happens due to the paralytic agent injection by a… psychotic serial killer. That killer in question is Richard (Finn Wittrock of TV’s American Horror Story) or at least that’s what he called himself after he met a grieving young woman, Iris (Kelsey Asbille of TV’s Teen Wolf and Yellowstone). Iris is going for a morning hike at the time somewhere in the remote wilderness and arrives on the mountain,...

Back in 1968, George A. Romero made his feature directorial debut with one of the greatest horror movies ever made, Night of the Living Dead – and while doing so, he also introduced the world to flesh-eating ghouls that became a new definition for the world “zombie.” Romero, who passed away in 2017, went on to make several more zombie movies over the decades… and recently, his daughter Tina Romero revealed that she’s making her own feature directorial debut with a zombie movie called Queens of the Dead. Deadline reports that Charades has acquired the international sales rights to the project – and while doing so, they unveiled the first image from the film! You can check it out in this article.
