Cry havoc, and all that – we’ve got another pulse-pounding historical epic on the horizon. Hooray! More on the William Tell movie below:
Here at Film Stories, we are (read: I am) fans of exactly two things – Robert Eggers’ 2022 Viking epic The Northman, and the first two episodes of Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat’s monstrously underrated post-Sherlock miniseries, Dracula. Everything else we talk about is just filler, really.
Until now! Because what do the two above projects have in common? Danish actor and musician Claes Bang, of course! And The Square star has a new project on the horizon in the form of Nick Hamm’s upcoming historical biopic, William Tell, about the famed 14th century marksman, which is now set for a UK cinema release on 10th January 2025.

He went on to contribute to episodes of Shudder’s Creepshow series. Last month, we heard he will be directing the horror film The Casket Girls, starring Gabrielle Union. Now, Deadline reports that Dyck will be directing the haunted house movie William for Aperture Entertainment.

You probably remember one thing about the Swiss folk hero William Tell: He used a bow and arrow to shoot an apple off the head of his son. But did you know that he did so on the orders of a cruel Austrian leader who wanted to quell any resistance to that country’s onerous occupation of Switzerland? Or that he became a leader of the Swiss resistance?
If you don’t remember the backstory to the bow, the boy and the apple, Irish director Nick Hamm’s “William Tell” is here to remind you, and to add a few of its own embellishments to the centuries-old folk tale. The film is big, brutal and beautiful — over the top at times and stirring at others. It finds modern resonance in a 14th century European legend, and for better and worse it also turns that legend into a slam-bang bit of muscular Hollywood-style entertainment.

Exclusive: Nick Hamm’s action-packed adaptation William Tell, starring Claes Bang and Golshifteh Farahani, has sold to the UK & Ireland and Germany-speaking territories ahead of its world premiere in Toronto next week.
Munich-based sales company Beta Cinema unveiled the all-rights deals to Altitude (UK & Ireland) and SquareOne Entertainment for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, following the film’s well-attended press and industry screening in Toronto on Thursday.
Both distributors are targeting a release date in Q1 2025.
Beta Cinema has already announced deals with Sf Studios, Beta Fiction (Spain), Eagle Pictures (Italy), Dutch Filmworks (Benelux), Pris Audiovisuais (Portugal), Monolith Films (Poland), Cinemart (Czech Republic), Blitz (Former Yugoslavia), Ads (Hungary and Romania), Beta Film (Bulgaria), Tfg (Greece), Ukraine (Top Film) and The Plot Pictures (Middle East & Turkey) earlier this year.
Director Hamm’s adaptation of Friedrich Schiller’s classic play is fresh out of post-production.
Bang stars as titular hero opposite Farahani as his wife. They are joined by Connor Swindells, Jonah Hauer-King, Ellie Bamber, Rafe Spall and Emily Beecham, with Academy-Award winner Ben Kingsley and Academy-Award nominee Jonathan Pryce.
Altitude co-ceo Will Clarke said of the acquisition: “It’s fantastic to be working with such an incredible team of film-makers and our friends at Beta and we can’t wait to bring the epic and thrilling William Tell to audiences in the UK & Ireland.”
For his part, Thomas Sierk, Director of Acquisitions & Sales at SquareOne Entertainment, said: “The production truly succeeds to tell the story of the legendary freedom-fighter William Tell as an exciting, action-packed epic with an outstanding international cast.
Al Munteanu, CEO of SquareOne Entertainment added, “Together with my team, I am thrilled to bring this fantastic production to theaters early next year.”
The narrative unfolds in the 14th Century, when Europe’s nations fiercely vie for supremacy within the Holy Roman Empire. The ambitious Austrians, desiring more land, encroach upon Switzerland, a serene and pastoral nation.
Amidst this backdrop, William Tell, a formerly peaceful hunter, finds himself forced to take action as his family and homeland come under dire threat from the oppressive Austrian King and his ruthless warlords. Leading his fellow countrymen, Tell embarks on a courageous rebellion, seeking to defend their liberty and stand against the tyrannical forces that seek to subjugate them.
Hamm’s previous credits include Driven, which was selected as the closing film at the Venice Film Festival, Netflix’s White Lines and The Journey which premiered at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals.
Piers Tempest and Marie-Christine Jaeger-Firmenich (Gigi & Nate) produce. Executive Producers include Jon Hamm, David Nichols and Francesco Marras.
William Tell is a Free Turn Films / Tempo production in association with Beta Cinema, WME Independent, Prime Focus Studios and Groenlandia and Cineroma Srl. The production is supported by Idm Südtirol and autonomous province of Bozen/Bolzano – South Tyrol and Quebec Film Production Services Tax Credit.
“We are delighted to partner with such highly esteemed distributors for the UK and Germany. The epic tale of William Tell presents a rich tapestry of themes and topics, providing a strong foundation for bold and ambitious theatrical campaigns in these two key European markets,” said Beta Cinema EVP Thorsten Ritter.
The film will world premiere in Toronto as a Gala Presentation next week and will then make its European presentation at the Zurich Film Festival in October. Beta Cinema handles international rights, alongside WME Independent who represent domestic rights.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the long-awaited sequel to director Tim Burton’s 1988 classic Beetlejuice (watch it Here), is set to reach theatres on September 6th. Saying the title character’s name three times is the way to summon (or banish) the bio-exorcist, so naming one film Beetlejuice and next Beetlejuice Beetlejuice feels like we’re building up to a Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. In fact, if there isn’t a third movie, it’s going to feel like a missed opportunity at this point. But Burton and the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice producers aren’t getting ahead of themselves. Speaking to Total Film, they revealed that they haven’t even discussed the possibility of a Beetlejuice 3 yet.
Producer Tommy Harper said, “We haven’t talked about where it could go from here, we just talked about making one really good movie. Make it the best you can, and then anything could happen.“

“For me, that song, when I listened to it, it was so inspiring and it was so cool and it was so good,” Enrique Iglesias told will.i.am about the Black Eyed Peas’ 2003 debut single, “Where Is the Love?”
A guest on “will.i.am Presents the Fyi Show” recorded live at the SiriusXM Miami Studios, Enrique said he still gets goosebumps thinking about that song and how he knew it was the “tipping point” for the group’s career similar to Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance.”
“I remember being at Interscope [Records] and begging to work with you in the studio,” Enrique added.
Enrique also talked about how he spent over a year writing his 2001 hit song “Hero,” but the label wanted a more uptempo lead single for the album — an experience will.i.am could relate to.

Daniela Elser of News.com.au discussed Kate Middleton’s fight against cancer. She believes there is more at stake in Kate’s future than just fighting and winning her battle against the disease.
Elser cited a New York Times opinion piece written by Tina Brown. She is the author of The Diana Chronicles and The Palace Papers.
Brown believes that Kate Middleton is “battling much more than cancer. She may have to deal with the ramifications of King Charles’ health woes, too.
“Catherine is battling more — much more — than cancer,” she writes.
“A tidal wave of premature responsibility is crashing in her and William’s direction.

I think I need to brush up on my eighties horror knowledge and film watching because I realised when I had the chance to watch Nightmares In A Damaged Brain that I had barely even heard about it and had no idea what the movie was actually about. In fact, outside of the big hitters I haven’t watched as many as I should have, and the ‘video nasties’ are a good place to start.

Romcoms has been a fan-favorite genre for a long time now and it’s hard to talk about the genre without mentioning 1999’s 10 Things I Hate About You featuring Heath Ledger. The film was a modernization of William Shakespeare’s comedy The Taming of the Shrew and easily became one of the most popular live-action William Shakespeare adaptations of all time. However, as Hollywood progressed, many new films were made and now fans are worried that 10 Things I Hate About You will soon be demoted from the list.
Heath Ledger in 10 Things I Hate About You
2024’s Anyone but You, which is loosely based on Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare, is now officially the highest-grossing live-action William Shakespeare adaptation. So, fans are now demanding a re-release of 10 Things I Hate About You so it can rightfully stay on top of the list.

“Kate wore a flowing white dress, a color she chooses when she wants to blend,” says Stanton on behalf of Betfair. “She clearly did not want to be the center of attention, as opposed to when she wears striking reds or blues.

Allen Ginsberg initially thought The Beatles were naive when he first met them. However, he soon learned that they were innovators and artists like him.

In Martin Scorsese’s 2005 documentary No Direction Home (per Ginsberg’s website), Ginsberg explained the first time he met The Beatles. He said he’d just been kicked out of Cuba “for talking privately about Castro’s persecution of gay people.” Then, he went to Czechoslovakia but they also kicked him out a week later. They deported him to London around the time of Bob Dylan’s concerts at the Royal Albert Hall.
There was a “very exciting scene back in the hotel,” and Dylan was down the hall with The Beatles. Ginsberg said he received a message that he should come down the hall to meet them all.

Look over the list of Best Picture winners over the years and you realise that almost every film selected is still in circulation.
William Wellman’s Wings, the very first winner in 1927, is readily available on DVD and Blu-Ray, as are such other early winners as Cimarron and Broadway Melody.
Most of the other Best Picture winners are titles that any film lover will recognise instantly. The blind spots are obvious. The Academy never chooses foreign language titles. In recent years, it has shunned comedies.
The Shape of Water may have won in 2018, but voters are generally wary about genre pictures. You don’t see many sci-fi or martial arts titles on the list.

Beat poets Allen Ginsberg and William S. Burroughs agreed: there’s something special about The Beatles‘ “Eleanor Rigby.” Although, when Paul McCartney played the melody for his piano teacher, they weren’t too impressed.
The Beatles | Mark and Colleen Hayward/Redferns Allen Ginsberg and William S. Burrough’s relationship with the Fab Four
The pair of poets were close to The Beatles in their own way.
According to his website, Ginsberg met the Fab Four in a hotel room. Both Cuba and Czechoslovakia had recently kicked him out. He arrived in London around Bob Dylan’s concerts at Albert Hall.
“There was a very exciting scene back in the hotel and Dylan was down the hall with The Beatles,” Ginsberg said. “Then a message came that I was supposed to come in there. So I came into the room and everyone was sitting there totally stone-cold silent frozen paranoid. Not quite knowing my place,...

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie paid a loving tribute Saturday to their “grannie” Queen Elizabeth II, who died on Sept. 8. She was 96.
The daughters of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson released a statement via Buckingham Palace and expressed not being able “to put much into words” since their “grannie” died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.
“Our dearest Grannie, We’ve not been able to put much into words since you left us all,” the sisters wrote. “There have been tears and laughter, silences and chatter, hugs and loneliness, and a collective loss for you, our beloved Queen and our beloved Grannie. We, like many, thought you’d be here forever. And we all miss you terribly.”
“You were our matriarch, our guide, our loving hand on our backs leading us through this world. You taught us so much and we will cherish those lessons and memories forever,” the sisters continued.

Aside from being a rollicking, romantic romp, The Mummy (1999) has carved out an iconic place among movie lovers for what Tor.com’s Leah Schnelbach describes as its chaotic bisexual energy. Here is a movie with an ensemble cast whose combined hotness, sheer charisma, and bucking of gender and societal norms make it so that anyone can see themselves in a variety of characters—and perhaps make some breakthroughs in realizing who they’re attracted to.
As Maggie Tokuda-Hall summed up, “Hot people being horny on main; campy violence; himbos.” But while The Mummy is a unique modern classic, it’s not the only one to spark a bisexual awakening among fans: May I present its equally chaotic bisexual contemporary, Brian Helgeland’s delightful 2001 film, A Knight’s Tale.
Layering medieval anachronism over the familiar beats of a sports narrative, only with jousting replacing football or baseball, A Knight’s Tale succeeds...

Note: The following contains spoilers for “Westworld” Season 4, Episode 7.
“Westworld” viewers know well enough by now that “dead” doesn’t always mean dead in the HBO sci-fi series, but Episode 7 of Season 4 sure seemed to seal the fate of one of the series’ most beloved characters.
Since returning from the Sublime, Bernard has maintained that after running simulations, there is only one way to save the world – and in that scenario, he doesn’t make it out alive. After teaming up with a revived Maeve (Thandiwe Newton) to take on Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson) and her tower that has human citizens of New York City under control, Bernard was confronted by the William host (Ed Harris) and subsequently shot to death.
When asked by TheWrap if Bernard is dead in a recent interview about the episode, Wright replied simply, “It seems so.”
The actor wouldn’t let on more than that,...
