In the early years of the MCU, the franchise always advertised itself to a younger audience. The character showcased good morality, which made for good role models for other huge demographics of younger viewers. While there are several characters that can be used as examples for this, there is no one better than Captain America himself.

With his willingness to never back down, constantly sticking with what he believes in, and always being the good guy in the eyes of the audience, there is no denying that his character was the perfect role model for viewers. This is why it is extremely surprising to know that one of the darkest moments in the early years of the franchise was present in the very first film from Chris Evans’ trilogy.

The Dog Days of summer—vaguely from mid-July through mid-August, depending on who does the counting—may not seem like much of an Oscar crucible. You’d think most Academy voters would be sipping Margaritas in Malibu, or Limoncello Martinis somewhere on the Mediterranean.
But as often as not in the last fifteen years, the Dog Day bracket has produced a Best Picture nominee. And last year, of course, it brought a winner in Oppenheimer, which was released alongside fellow Best Picture nominee Barbie on July 21, and was still going gangbusters in mid-August.
There’s a certain rough charm to the Dog Day nominees. They tend to be audience favorites, movies that connect with the movie-hungry middle, which powers them into the Oscar race, whatever the somewhat fussier film professionals may think.

You know you love her, and why wouldn't you?
Eva Longoria is not only a talented actress who chooses projects that speak not just to her amazing acting talent but resonate with her heart in a way that shows in her performances.
She may have gotten recognition from her role on a drama-dripping soap opera with a cast of actors who have no right to be as attractive as they are talented, but Longoria has proven she is so much more than a pretty face and a smile that could melt steel.
With wins from the Screen Actors Guild and the People's Choice, the actress is a familiar face who has been entertaining folks since the start of the millennium.
If this fantastic woman hasn't won you over yet, do a quick search of her to see how she brings thousands of dollars to charities and foundations that help impoverished communities and immigrants worldwide.

You can watch a handful of movies about dogs, and it still won’t get any easier to not shed a few tears. Kim Deok-min’s Dog Days is no different. It shows that dogs are more than just a pet you bring home, they are family. A truly heartwarming family-friendly watch, Dog Days also advocates for the “adopt, don’t buy” campaign.

The delayed release of “Wonka” continued to pay dividends as the Timothee Chalamet-starring fantasy headed the box office in South Korea for a third weekend. But the theatrical market contracted sharply after the Lunar New Year holiday.
“Wonka,” which released in much of the world in December, took $1.95 million between Friday and Sunday in Korea. That represented a 50% week-on-week tumble but it put “Wonka” on a cumulative total of $16.7 million after 19 days on release and confirmed the title as the top performing film of 2024 in Korea, according to data from Kobis, the tracking service operated by the Korean Film Council (Kofic). Warner Bros. announced that with this weekend’s increment, the film has now grossed $600 million worldwide.
The wider Korean cinema market, however, dropped more steeply – from $11.8 million over the Lunar New Year holiday to $5.26 million in the latest session. That was the fourth lowest weekend over the past 12 months.

Timothee Chalamet’s Wonka Vs Henry Cavill’s Argylle At South Korean Box Office (Picture Credit: IMDb)
Timothee Chalamet, ahead of the release of Dune: Part Two, got the highest-grossing film of his career with the musical fantasy Wonka. The film did an incredible business at the North American box office. It is also doing well in South Korea. Meanwhile, Henry Cavill-led Argylle opened to a poor reception here, and it is also the same at the South Korean box office. Keep scrolling to know.
The film, directed by Paul King, tells the origin story of Willy Wonka. The fictional character first appeared in the children’s novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. In 2005, Johnny Depp appeared as Willy Wonka in Tim Burton’s movie and was widely appreciated by the people. He and Gene Wilder set the standards too high for this character with their performances,...

Hollywood fantasy film “Wonka” held strongly at the top of the South Korean box office on a weekend boosted by the Lunar New Year holidays. But Hollywood spy comedy “Argylle” opened disappointingly in seventh position.
Korea allocates three days of public holiday to the Lunar New Year and took them this time from Friday to Sunday. The extra holiday footfall in cinemas drove up box office and gave “Wonka” an almost unchanged weekend haul, despite a declining share of the overall market.
“Wonka” earned $3.88 million in its second weekend, according to data from Kobis, the tracking service operated by the Korean Film Council (Kofic). After 12 days in Korean cinemas, it has a cumulative total of $11.6 million.
The overall theatrical market climbed 50% due to the holiday, from $7.47 million to $11.3 million this weekend.

I’m trying to stay optimistic. It takes some effort, as just about everyone seems to think the film business is a mess–strike-thinned schedule, cultural chaos, streaming models in flux. But, hey, the Golden Globes audience was up by half, never mind critical reaction to the show. There are still signs of life out there.
So I’ll stick with an earlier prediction, that this will be a big comeback year for the Oscar show.
More, I’ll cautiously suggest that we can expect what you might call an “interstitial hit” between now and next December.
These are movies that seem to come out of nowhere. They arrive with low or no expectations, from companies that are barely on the map. But they work their way into some conceptual or temporal gap in the release schedule, firing up viewers with je ne sais quoi, And suddenly they’re right...

Over the course of his appearances on This Is Us, Ron Cephas Jones earned four consecutive Emmy nominations, with one for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and three for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series. He is just one of four actors to win the latter multiple times.
Sterling K. This week sees two new movies looking to take down the dual behemoths that are Barbie and Oppenheimer as the Seth Rogan produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and the Jason Statham sequel Meg 2: The Trench hit theaters. The simple fact is that no movie will remove Barbie from her perch atop the charts for a good while. I’d say probably not until at least Gran Turismo on the 25th, although there is no tracking for that movie yet. I don’t think Blue Beetle stands a chance at beating Barbie!
Second place could be a toss up, even with a sub 40% drop, Oppenheimer should finish around the $30 million mark while Mutant Mayhem is currently projected to do $30 million for its full five day release. Not to give too much away, but there’s a cathartic scene in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 that features several characters and the residents of Knowhere dancing euphorically to the 2008 Florence + the Machine hit song “Dog Days Are Over.” The climactic scene and the emotive needle drop would make even the blackest of hearts throb with a little emotion.

We here at /Film love a well-placed needle drop. Whether it's the inclusion of Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence" in "The Graduate" to emphasize the complicated future of the two leads or Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" in "Wayne's World" that inspired audiences everywhere to headbang in their cars, there's an art to the (often very expensive) cinematic needle drop. A song choice can truly make or break the effectiveness of a scene and when done properly, the collaboration between song and screen can become synonymous. "Top Gun" and the Kenny Loggin' song "Danger Zone" now go hand-in-hand with one another, and you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who hears the tin whistle opening of "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion and not immediately think about Jack and Rose in "Titanic."

Smother-In-Law (2022-) About the Series
Smother-in-Law is a funny series that, complying with all the rules of the sitcom genre, becomes more naughty, lighthearted and (only from time to time) even witty in its dialogues.

Last week, the German magazine Der Spiegel reported allegations children on the set of his film were exposed to violence and nudity — and were not notified in advance of the film’s pedophilia-themed storyline. “Sparta,” which has yet to screen publicly, follows the story of a pedophile who teaches judo to young boys in an abandoned school building.
TIFF said the article “raised concerns that official guidelines established to protect children and keep their guardians informed when making films were not followed.”

Anyone seeking a peek into Ulrich Seidl’s worldview–perhaps his soul–could do worse than Rimini, his first film since Safari in 2016 and first narrative feature in almost a decade. It swells with Seidl ephemera: hunting trophies, Austrian basements, and lovelorn holiday-makers of a certain age. And then there’s the mood. Consider a shot near the end of its first act: a ghostly, out-of-season water park looming over an out-of-season man; mist clouds so dense they hang over the park’s slides; and just to the right, still as statues, a group of hooded refugees.
Rimini, a dense and discomforting character study, stars an astonishing Michael Thomas as Richie Bravo, a once-popular singer of German Schlager music (a derided and sentimental genre that came to fame in the postwar years), now making ends meet as a washed entertainer in holiday resorts where he serenades, occasionally seduces (for a little extra income) aging fans.

Exclusive: Days before the world premiere of Tig Notaro and Stephanie Allynne’s feature directorial debut Am I Ok? at Sundance, Deadline has learned about the duo’s next feature project is Time and Space, which Judd Apatow will produce through his Apatow Productions.
Allynne will direct off a screenplay she wrote based on a story she conceived with her spouse Notaro. Emmy nominee and stand-up comic Notaro also will star in the project, which follows the life of a lesbian couple who are thrown into turmoil when they ditch their Los Angeles city life for upstate New York. Notaro and Allynne will produce through their production company, Something Fierce.
Time and Space reflects Notaro and Allynne’s interest in sophisticated, entertaining storytelling with universal appeal where there just happens to be gay characters and themes.
The duo conceived Time and Space during the pandemic, though the movie is not set during one.

‘Together Together’ Film Review: Patti Harrison Delivers Star-Making Performance in Surrogacy Comedy
If you’re a fan of Patti Harrison’s scene-stealing work on “Shrill” — or a devotee of the brilliant shock-humor of her Twitter feed — you’ll be delighted but not entirely surprised by her stellar work in “Together Together,” a movie that gives her the space to be hilarious, yes, but also heartbreaking and human.
The comedy from writer-director Nikole Beckwith, making its debut at the Sundance Film Festival, leaps into the world with all the attributes audiences expect from a character-based comedy: It’s bright and witty and packed with laughs, but those laughs stem from real empathy and understanding of its characters.
Harrison stars as Anna, who’s serving as surrogate for Silicon Valley bachelor Matt (Ed Helms); he’s ready for fatherhood even if he doesn’t currently have a partner. Harrison’s deadpan and Helms’ dorky enthusiasm clash early and often, as Matt’s perpetual efforts...
