In GREEN ROOM, a down-on-their-luck punk band, desperate for a gig, winds up playing a show for a group of skinheads. Though it's a bit uncomfortable, the band plays through, and all goes well. That is, until a disturbing incident throws everything into chaos, and a life-and-death struggle begins.
This movie will ring true for anyone who has ever been in a band, and had to travel in their personal vehicle, filled with equipment and bandmates. Roadlife is depicted accurately, making the band's decision to play at a questionable venue not seem so foolish.
Once it all hits the fan, the action is intense, and the violence is brutal. The viewer is never sure who, if anyone, will survive. Everyone is outstanding in their roles, including Patrick Stewart, who proves, once again, that there's more to him than just the mild-mannered Captain Picard. His Darcy is a deceptively low-key, utterly malevolent character.
One of the best "under siege" thrillers to come along in quite a while...

THE LOST FOOTAGE OF LEAH SULLIVAN is about the title character's (Anna Stromberg) journalism class project / investigation into some murders that occurred thirty years earlier, in a small town in Massachusetts. At first, everything is upbeat, and by the book. Leah is joined by a good-natured cop (Burt Grinstead). Together, they uncover a lot more than they had anticipated.
As she digs deeper, Leah's video begins to take on a much more ominous quality.
As far as "found footage" horror films go, this is a pretty good one. The primary ruse works well, with Leah's "project" making it easier for the viewer to suspend disbelief, and accept her filming of everything. Of course, as in many of these FF movies, there comes a time when using a camera is absurd, like when in a life-or-death struggle. It happens here too.
Still, it's worth watching. The tension builds slowly, in a casual, natural way, right up until the bonkers finale. Is it scary? Somewhat, although it's extremely difficult to be original in this subgenre.
Ms. Stromberg co-wrote the screenplay, along with Mr. Grinstead, who also directed it...

DEATH OF A VLOGGER is a "found footage" / "mockumentary" horror film about the titular internet personality (Graham Hughes) and the alleged paranormal occurrances he captures on video.
The real fun begins when a pompous, greedy ghost-hunter (Paddy Kondracki) is brought in to investigate the odd goings-on in Graham's apartment. The "360 Degree Seance" is a highlight of the movie. When a skeptical journalist / debunker (Joma West) gets involved, all bets are off.
It helps a lot that there's humor woven throughout the story. There's also a subtext concerning the nature of the internet itself: what is real and what is not?
If you're a diehard fan of all things supernatural, then this movie might just pi$$ you off a bit...
