This show has always been a pale invitation of the original, but it seems to be getting worse. The original show was typically a light hearted show that you could count on as a part of "must see TV" back in the day.
It's sad because they have a good cast, but they don't seem to have writers. Melissa, John, and Wendy are talented, but they have nothing to work with in this episode. The jokes fall flat. Who thinks that this is funny? The laugh track is not helpful. Please hire a new writing staff!
I really want this show to get better, but I'm getting the impression that will not happen. I'll give this show a few more episodes to see if they can turn it around.

A fascinating episode showing how the Irish were being treated as they came to our country more than 100 years ago.
The parallels of what's occurring today are hard to miss. The only difference is, in the case of the Irish, they were white and therefore harder to identify as being foreign just by looks.
The episode shows that the struggle to become an American as long-standing and ongoing for those not lucky enough to have been born here.
As a white male of Northern European descent it makes me appreciate how hard some families have to work to earn the privilege of calling themselves in American.
