Today marks 1000 days of russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. Economists for Ukraine joined the AI for Good Foundation in the first days of the invasion, working on sanctions, economic policy, technological platforms, humanitarian aid & support for Ukraine's defenders. In 1000 days we have: 1. Collected thousands of testimonies on Svidok.org, Ukraine's largest archive of war stories—built and launched by our team. Testimonies from Svidok have been used as evidence in hundreds of war crime cases against Russia by Ukraine's Office of Prosecutor General & the International Criminal Court. 2. Built, deployed, and maintained MySyla.org, the largest aid matching platform that lets people find what they need and request aid. MySyla was the first international platform to be integrated with Ukraine's e-government platform Diia by the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine. 3. Given out over 70 fellowships to support Ukrainian academics. 4. Set up & operated 4 education centers for children surviving under harsh conditions in frontline cities (Mykolaiv, Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv). 5. Provided hundreds of thousands of dollars in humanitarian aid, including shoes, blankets, children's books, power banks, medical support, ect. 6. Provided support for Ukraine's defenders, including 1,100 tourniquets, thousands of evacuation blankets & warmers, hundreds of hemostatic bandages, & grants to in-country innovation centers working on drones. 7. Written nearly 100 op-eds, including in the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Project Syndicate, The Guardian, VoxEU, The National Interest, VoxUkraine, and more. 8. Written policy whitepapers on sanctions as part of the Yermak-McFaul International Working Group on Russian Sanctions. Written and published the “bible” on reconstruction of Ukraine—the Center for Economic and Policy Research book “Rebuilding Ukraine: Principles and Policies.” 9. Given nearly 100 interviews to Deutsche Welle, BBC, Bloomberg, Global News, News Nation, Voice of America, The Independent, CNN, Euronews, & more. 10. Ran awareness & fundraising events in the United States Senate, Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York, University of California, Berkeley, University of San Francisco, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology highlighting the danger of Russian attacks against cultural heritage sites and the environment, with the war exacerbating the world's environmental crises. It is tragic that Russia's war has reached the 1000 day mark when the West had the resources to defeat Russian aggression in 2022. The cost of hesitation only rises with time. We will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes—to end this war in victory & just peace as soon as possible.
