Closed EMR and RIS are the silent barrier stalling healthcare innovation. Without open APIs, data remains locked, workflows are disrupted, and even cutting-edge AI falls short of its promise. The solution? Open, interoperable platforms that break down silos, streamline integration, and empower providers to deliver better care. It’s not just a tech issue—it’s a patient care imperative. Healthcare deserves systems that work together, not apart. The future demands it. Let’s make it happen. #Interoperability #OpenAPIs #HealthcareInnovation #AlphaNodus #RSNA2024

RSNA is drawing to an end. As a first-time attendee, I was blown away by the scale of innovation in radiology. While #AI took center stage, other critical topics like #interoperability with EMRs and global access to technology were also subjects of conversation. 👉 It's all about AI This year, almost every booth at the RSNA featured the word AI in one form or another. While some newcomers are truly pushing the boundaries in radiology with large language models, many vendors are simply riding the wave with AI-washing. The most ambitious companies predict their first AI-driven applications will reach FDA clearance by this time next year. 🏅 Large multimodal models are approaching the capability of generating radiology reports directly from DICOM imaging and text. I can’t wait to see that happen! 👉 Major focus on the US market While modality producers can easily target the global population with the same hardware, the same cannot be said for software. I have seen many innovative software solutions, but most of them remain limited to the English language. 🚨 It is alarming to see so many opportunities being unavailable for European radiology practices, largely due to a fragmented market and strict regulations. 👉 Interoperability is the key to adoption Integration with EMRs is still an issue. Even though interoperability was not the key topic of this RSNA (AI was!), many vendors cited integration with clinics’ medical record systems as their main obstacle to reaching more customers. To drive adoption, new software solutions still need to be integrated with electronic medical records. Without interoperability, even the most advanced AI tools can’t deliver their full potential. 🌟 Radiologists need solutions that integrate seamlessly with existing workflows—not ones that add extra layers of complexity. Open systems, like the interop platform we at PINK are developing, are perfectly positioned to serve this need. #RSNA2024 made one thing clear: the future of radiology will be powered by AI, but success depends on tackling challenges like market accessibility and integration in clinical workflows. I’m optimistic about what the next year will bring for the field—and PINK’s role in shaping it. Annalise.ai Smart Reporting GmbH Tennr Eden Enlitic Alpha Nodus, Inc.
