  • During last week’s World AIDS Day panel discussion in partnership with MAC Cosmetics, amfAR CEO Kevin Robert Frost highlighted how amfAR pioneered the nation’s first community-based clinical trials, bringing life-saving HIV treatments directly to those with no access to academic medical centers. “We believe in letting communities lead,” said Frost. “It's part of our DNA.”

  • A powerful and sobering analysis highlighting the impact of neglecting science-based HIV prevention by amfAR's Public Policy office. If Southern states choose to reject CDC HIV prevention funding and overlook disproportionately impacted communities, the consequences could be devastating — and entirely avoidable. At amfAR, we believe in the power of evidence-based solutions. Prevention saves lives, and public health must remain a priority. Let's ensure science leads the way in the fight to end HIV/AIDS.

My team just published an analysis evaluating how many HIV infections we might expect by 2030 if all Southern states in the US opted to forego CDC HIV prevention funding and ignore populations disproportionately impacted by HIV (as Tennessee had proposed to do). It is a sobering and timely analysis in an era where science and evidence are being undervalued. A link to an electronic copy of the published paper is below: https://lnkd.in/eD-MZZMx

  • In honor of World AIDS Day, amfAR teamed up with MAC Cosmetics Viva Glam to host a panel discussion at the M·A·C Cosmetics Headquarters in NYC highlighting the power of partnerships in advancing health equity and supporting the fight against HIV/AIDS.   Thanks to New York Transgender Advocacy Group founder Kiara St. James; Dr. Robert Pitts, Medical Director at NYC Health+Hospitals/Bellevue’s HIV Prevention and Pride Center; and Dr. Andrea Gramatica, VP and Director of Research at amfAR, for joining us for this informative and stimulating conversation.   “I do think World AIDS Day is a good time to look back, it’s an opportunity to think back to the early days of the epidemic,” amfAR CEO Kevin Robert Frost, who served as moderator, said. “We’ve come a long way and I think there’s a lot we have to be proud of, but there’s still work to be done.”   Since 2000, MAC Viva Glam has partnered with amfAR, contributing over $1.2 million to support the foundation's lifesaving HIV/AIDS research. This longstanding collaboration underscores MAC's commitment to making a meaningful impact in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
