We’re excited to announce our investment in Cartesia, leading $27M in new funding to help them build the next generation of real-time AI models. While transformer models have revolutionized AI and power many of today’s applications, they come with clear limitations: they’re slow, computationally expensive, and often out of reach for all but the largest companies. Cartesia is changing that. Their pioneering state space models (SSMs) are shaping the next wave of innovation in AI, delivering faster inference, better scalability, and real-time performance, with the ability to run locally on any device. Their Sonic voice API is already delivering expressive, lifelike speech for hundreds of businesses, from startups to public companies. Led by an exceptional team of Stanford researchers, including Karan Goel, Albert Gu (one of TIME’s 100’s most influential people in AI), Arjun Desai, Brandon Yang, and their former professor Chris Ré, Cartesia’s SSMs will help developers build highly efficient AI applications across a wide range of industries like customer service, sales and marketing, robotics, healthcare, transportation, education, gaming, defense, security, and more.
