  • Our Director Helen King was delighted to speak today on the innovation and future risks panel of the 2024 WeProtect Global Alliance Global Summit. Helen talked about how meaningful prevention activity benefits from finding innovative and relevant ways to connect and land messaging with children who are vulnerable. Helen shared our approach of listening to children and youth to understand their needs and challenges online with a view to co-creating a range of solutions and responses. Helen talked about our work in Ghana - where children told us that they needed information about online safety from online sources. This led us to support the creation of safety campaigns and resources that were shared with popular local creators and viewed over 3 million times.

  • We’re thrilled to have launched the second year of the TikTok Youth Council! This year, the council has expanded to include even more young people from a wider range of countries, providing deeper insights into the lives and experiences of young people on TikTok. The TikTok Youth Council was the first global youth council created by a major tech company, and we’re incredibly proud to have played a role in establishing and facilitating it. The council provides TikTok with a unique opportunity to connect directly with young people who use the platform, helping us understand their experiences and work together to explore ways to improve their time on TikTok. In September, TikTok re-launched the Teen Safety Centre—a fantastic example of the work done in collaboration with the youth council. This showcases how valuable it is to engage with young people to shape meaningful, impactful changes. https://lnkd.in/ehGpUmUe

  • Last week, Praesidio Safeguarding had the privilege of visiting Ghana to engage directly with parents, teachers, children & those who work to protect them. We ran focus groups and meetings which aimed to uncover knowledge gaps around online CSE and understand how we can better protect vulnerable communities in the digital space and work well in collaboration with local partners. We were also joined by Childlight - Global Child Safety Institute and Lantern Rescue Foundation in meetings with local NGOs and police & Law Enforcement to explore their roles in minimising the spread of Online CSAM and how young people can be supported and report without fear. These collaborative discussions provided valuable insights into how various stakeholders contribute to protecting children online and the challenges they face in doing so. We look forward to sharing more of our insights and the work we are doing in West Africa soon!

  • Last week, we had the pleasure of being invited to INTERPOL, Lyon to attend a roundtable event with other agencies and organisations working to tackle child sexual exploitation around the world. This event was a great opportunity to hear updates on the range of work that is being conducted but also to explore future collaboration opportunities, especially with regards to our current work in West Africa. The discussions around the table were a stark reminder as to the scale of this issue, whilst at the same time humbling to hear of all of the excellent and innovative work that is taking place in this space. We left Lyon feeling empowered, with a better understanding of how the work we do at Praesidio fits into the wider global effort to help tackle child sexual exploitation. By working together, we are hopeful to have a greater impact in both preventing and reducing incidents of child sexual exploitation globally.
