Huge news from Google yesterday about changes to their plans for Chrome privacy updates... - Third-party cookies not directly deprecated - users to be given the choice - IP Protection coming to incognito mode (implying not normal mode?) It's a very high level announcement so lots of questions of detail (e.g. no mention of storage partitioning which is used by SeamlessAccess) and of course we'll have to see how all the regulators react 👀👀👀 https://lnkd.in/eKnsrzkS

Very happy to join the Open Org community! As one of the few Product (not People) folks here (I believe we share more than just the first letter), I'm excited to bring a fresh perspective. Why? Because I'm a people person who believes that creating epic experiences for teams through the product lens will have immense impact. In Africa, where transparency and people growth aren't always the norm, it’s time to shake things up. Investing in people seems like the obvious win in markets ruled by employers. Looking forward to learning and applying these principles daily. Here’s how I see it through these 3 first principles: - Transparency: Being honest, treating people like adults, and providing clear communication and full context at all times. - Care: Investing in people's growth, mentoring, and a dash of inspiration. - Culture: Creating a positive, inclusive vibe that attracts and keeps the best and pushes the others out. #PeopleExperience #Product #CPO #RadicalCandor #Transparency #culture

🌶️ Hot take: Data privacy compliance isn’t just a “later” problem for small businesses. From the start, it’s important to set up a strong foundation. At Ketch, we meet many small businesses without a solution for privacy compliance. Their thinking? 'No one’s paying attention to us’ 'We'll deal with it when we have to' 'It's too expensive right now' But here's what they're missing: Privacy isn't just about avoiding fines—it's about being transparent with your customers about how you use their data. This is why we created Ketch Free. A zero-cost solution that gives small businesses: 1️⃣ Easy to create privacy banners 2️⃣ Full compliance with every law 3️⃣ Consumer preference controls Set up in 5 minutes, protect your business forever. Ready to start building trust through privacy? Get Ketch Free: https://lnkd.in/gvnUy4KD

If you are an open source project maintainer or an open-core company, don't neglect your trademark strategy! Your community is your number one asset, but a close second is your trademark. Trademarks allow you to fend off impersonators and coup attempts. Good governance across a broad coalition of contributors is difficult to maintain without solid trademark practices. Secure your marks and then tell people how they can use them and avoid having to write blog posts like this. An ounce of prevention prevents several pounds of harm. #opensource #trademark #governance #opencore #oss

Another great example of how social media platforms lack the security and privacy to protect their user communities. Cyber crimes are on the rise, including predators looking to take advantage of minors as we see here with Snap. This is just the tip of the iceberg, and only a matter of time until social media companies will be required to face this challenge head on and prioritize safe and secure communications. https://lnkd.in/ewhKWRh9

Last week I got a notification from Google that 5 more states have data privacy laws coming on the books in 2025. That puts us to at least 15 states with a data privacy law (let's get going Massachusetts!). It's time for a comprehensive federal regulation on this matter. Running a business, such as a subscription business that involves user data becomes more and more difficult with all of these laws. Yes, most of them are similar enough to each other...until they aren't. I agree with the need for these laws and we work hard to comply with them, but sooner or later it's going to get to a place where one law contradicts another. This is one of the points of federal regulation - deal with competing state laws. Can we please get this done?

As a product person, I love experiences that just make sense. The new Carta partners dashboard in our Fund Admin product fits that bill. For fund managers, the relationship is the atomic unit of raising capital. However, our partners dashboard perviously displayed metrics by legal entity. Now grouping allows funds managers to view everything my relationship. They also add tags at the group level and the entity level. You can customize this view through filters, sorting, and editable columns. The dashboard will dynamically recalculate metrics for groups, tags, filters and so on. It just makes sense. 🙌

Next week I'll be in New York City, meeting with various groups to explain the Google Search antitrust decision, the timeline going forward, and the all-important remedy. Of course I'll also be talking about why chatter about choice screens makes my ears bleed (if you want to know why, read my essay "Choice Screen Fever Dream," https://lnkd.in/eE-NEmQM).

One of the potential benefits of opening up competition for payments in both the Android and iOS ecosystems will be forced innovation on the incumbents. Google is already doing some great stuff with changes to the Play Store that allow for custom listings based on keywords (every app should use this) and some additional payment options. I’m super curious to see how apps integrate installment payments for 1 year subscriptions. https://lnkd.in/gE9x5hJZ

B2B SaaS is often full of grandiose claims and vaporware. Common Room bucks that trend because it has one of the best EPD teams I've ever worked with (and I've worked with some of the best across Dropbox, Meta and Stripe). So put us to the test! What use cases and feature are you most interested to see a Common Room demo?

A really outstanding post (I don’t say this lightly) from Jovaughn Brown at LexBlog, Inc. on the evolution of RSS from 20 plus years ago to its growing importance today. Jovaugn covers a heck of a lot more - and I may take some of his early discussion for granted in that LexBlog has been moving and receiving content via RSS for two decades - but here’s some key points on RSS today that Jovaughn makes. Here’s a bullet-point summary of the key points from the writing: + Decentralized Platforms: RSS feeds are essential for cross-platform updates on decentralized networks like Mastodon and PeerTube, ensuring user autonomy without reliance on corporate algorithms. + Personalized and Monetized RSS Feed: Companies are creating gated RSS feeds for paid subscribers, offering personalized content and new opportunities for creators to monetize directly. + Expanded Use Cases: RSS feeds are now used to track updates on podcasts, YouTube channels, and Reddit forums, showing their versatility in modern content consumption. + AI-Enhanced RSS Feeds: AI is transforming RSS feeds by curating content based on user preferences, generating summaries, and automating workflows, making RSS more efficient and user-friendly. + Building Stronger Communities: RSS feeds foster direct engagement between creators and readers, free from algorithmic interference, allowing communities to grow organically and share valuable content. LexBlog is harnessing AI on a number of these evolving fronts. Thanks Jo Vaughn for going the extra mile with your observations, research and blogging here. Inspiring for us all - inside and outside LexBlog.

As the co-founder and head of product at Ketch, I've been observing a frustrating trend in the privacy software market that I believe warrants a discussion. Let's dive into it. Small cookie banner providers are driving down the perceived value of privacy software. They're offering solutions for as low as $100-$200 a month. On the surface, this sounds like a steal, right? But here’s the kicker – these low-cost options just don’t cut it when it comes to true compliance and enabling permission data throughout your business. It's like comparing a tricycle to a high-performance vehicle. Sure, both have wheels, but only one is going to get you where you need to go with speed, efficiency, and safety. The hundred-dollar cookie banners? They might get you a compliance “check” on the surface, but there’s nothing under the hood. So, what gives? Why are we letting these tricycles set the pace in a race meant for high-performance vehicles? I'm curious to hear other opinions. Do you think the market is undervaluing privacy software? Let's talk about it. 🚀 #dataprivacy #privacytech
