Returning from paternity leave is bittersweet, but I'm feeling re-energized and ready to tackle the immense opportunities ahead for our Amazon Ads and Amazon Marketing Cloud (AMC) customers. This was quoted to be Google's response to people who believe that the quality of Google results has trended downhill. Does this does come across Google's attempt to bring "information seeking" back to itself over Perplexity or OpenAI or even #Claude? Look at Barry Schwartz's poll asking "Do you think the new Google March core and spam updates will reduce unhelpful content from showing up in the search results by 40%?" - 77% said "NO." Unsurprising to anyone that knows me well, I love to perform analysis of product efforts, sure platforms like GA, mixpanel, adobe, etc are fun to quickly capture trends, but the joy comes from writing out the db queries and getting deeper into the signals. Getting deeper into the numbers as a start-up is a double-edged sword: I CAN join this table to add another column, I CAN look at more numbers, I CAN find more signals. However, in a retrospective yesterday we had a great discussion on diminishing returns within noise to signal. In the first pass, is there a trustworthy signal that can be used for decisions? If yes, then share the report and the signal and move on to the decision! More numbers could very well just be noise, or it could simply be an hour of work that just added a 1% support of the original signal. And you don't have enough time at a startup to build the huge report, tease out the noise, decide, defend the decision signal that you found through the noise, build the decision, and build the other unrelated necessities on the roadmap. Find the signal, validate the signal, decide, and move on. Did I write a 500 line query? yes! Does it provide a strong signal? yes? Did a 50 line query reinforce and provide the same signal but brighter? sure did. Do less so you can do more

Here's one takeaway that I work towards with my clients at ArticleProse: Deploy Deep, Comprehensive E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness) Content: Focus on creating website content that provides significant value beyond what AI summaries and competitors offer. Authoritative Content: Publish content by industry experts and thought leaders to build credibility. Trust Signals: Ensure your website has strong trust signals, including clear author bios, customer reviews, and secure site protocols (HTTPS).

There's a bigger play happening in podcasting than I think most of us in the industry realize, or willing to turn our eyes to. There are three companies that you should pay attention to more than you have been: Spotify, Amazon, and YouTube. I wish I could add a forth to emulte Scott Galloway's "The Four" (one of my favorite reads). Here goes: Spotify has essentially completed their multi year acquisition plan to build the next "Meta/Google" ads platform. If you look at their pod-related acquisitions, very few were profitable on their own. Content acquisitions (JRE/Call Her Daddy), Hosting (Anchor/Megaphone), Measurement (Podsights/Chartable)... but what do they have as a result? They have, in essence, built the "Google Ad Sense" of Podcasting--I bet they will eventually dismiss the idea of "buying podcast ads" and refer to what they do as "Spotify ads." SPAN, SAI, SPAA... it's all come together, and they don't need the IAB anymore, I guess. Amazon has a different leg up. They have content, but not as much as Spotify and definitely not the quantity of in platform listening. What do they have? They have the biggest database of buyer behavior at their disposal, and the ability to integrate their Amazon Ad tech into their podcasts to create a compelling ad market for buyers. https://lnkd.in/gnRjWgEx YouTube is a bit late to the podcast arms race, but it doesn't matter since their infrastructure is solid. YouTube already has accumulated so much pod listenership, and they are working on integrated search functions from Shorts to RSS (via YouTube Music). They're already the leader in pod discovery, and they already have one of the biggest ad ecosystems running via "ad sense" on pods--they can now optimize and continue to rob the others of their video opportunities. Plus, with Shopify integrations and on screen clickability performance tracking for brands is cleaner and already integrated into a platform they're familiar with at scale. The area it lacks is data sharing. No pixels, no clean visibility for brands. Here's what each are missing (IMO): Spotify: Trust. Amazon: Volume. YouTube: Measurement. Under these three giants, there's many other contenders to make industry changing impact, but I just don't see it happening unless serious efforts are made to keep up. In my view, Spotify and YouTube are neck and neck and Amazon is a silent underdog. The next 5 years are going to be exciting.

#Amaversary Celebrating seven years at Amazon today! The 'every-day' passes so swiftly, that a milestone like 'seven years' tends to make you a little reflective. If there is one thing that continually makes working at Amazon a delightful experience for me, it is our culture of invention. Sharing my favorite 4 quotes that reflect this culture best.  Could I have chosen 7 quotes for 7 years - sure! But that's another thing I've learnt - don't follow something just bcz it is status quo 😋 Here we go: 1. “We are stubborn on vision.
