Wow, what a journey! It's hard to believe I've already spent 5 years at Zomato. My time here has been a mix of roles—from Individual Contributor to Engineering Manager, PM for consumer products, and Tech Architect for core projects. I've been accountable for some of the most critical business impacts and faced many exciting challenges. Learning here never stops, especially when you work with incredibly talented people. But we're just 1% of the way there! One piece of advice from a mentor that really stuck with me: your impact should far exceed the investment the company puts in you—aim for 100x or more! Too often, we focus on the tasks we've completed instead of the impact we've made. Quality always trumps quantity, and progress is measured by outcomes, not just activity. Companies fail, founders don’t. <excerpt> Wishberg, a wishlist site launched in 2012 by Pravin Jadhav and Kulin Shah, struggled and was acquired by Freecharge in 2014, which Snapdeal bought in 2015. Jadhav was then brought on board at Paytm to start Paytm Money for stock trading, and eventually started his own, called DhanHQ. Shah worked at Acko before founding Onsurity, an employee health benefits platform. India’s internet ecosystem is full of stories of founders starting up, shutting down, being acquired, of being forced out, before they build something that works. Many founders who exit their businesses reinvest in new ventures. Freecharge’s Kunal Shah has funded over 200 startups so far. Venture capitalists also often back founders who have tried something new and failed. India’s startup ecosystem is still innovating and is in the process of maturing. Day 0 mentality ✅ Founder mentality ✅ Mission IPO: 🔜 It's been 5 years+ for us at Rapido, and in that span we have grown from 60,000 rides per day to a mind-boggling 2.7 million rides per day. That is nearly a 50X growth! Sometimes I can't believe these numbers myself.. Onwards and upwards 🚀

💡 Why India's approach to business & worker rights is backwards compared to the US - a note on Swiggy/Zomato delivery charges debate 🇺🇸 In USA: Workers form unions for protection & better conditions. People don't ask govt to cap company prices. Result? Both workers' rights AND business growth are protected 🇮🇳 In India: Upper middle class (who can afford to eat out) complains about 30-40₹ delivery fees & wants govt intervention to cap prices! The same folks who don't need govt support 🤦‍♂️ ❌ This mindset is why we don't have Indian companies reaching trillion-dollar valuations like Google/Facebook. When businesses try to make profits, we try to stop them! 🚗 The real issue? Gig workers need protection - medical insurance, life insurance, work hour limits. But nobody's fighting for these rights! 💰 Capping platform fees = Less money for both companies AND delivery workers. It's a lose-lose situation that helps only the privileged middle class 🤔 Result: Poor workers remain unprotected, businesses can't grow big, and money gets stuck in the middle class. Everyone wants to be "middle class" in India 🎯 Bottom line: We need stronger worker protections AND space for businesses to grow. Current approach helps neither!

I am unable to comprehend why founders, sometimes, cast a shadow on the massive work put in by a tireless army of employees for over a decade! I sincerely respect what he’s built at Ola but over the past few weeks, Bhavish made three interesting comments. 1. He tied nationalism to the launch of Ola maps welcoming Indian devs to switch from Google Maps. P.S. Krutrim cloud is likely going to be the next in line for a nationalist pitch. Yesterday, I read MapmyIndia has sued Ola for illicitly copying its data for Ola Maps. 2. He claimed Koo is shutting down as it was “recreating what already exists”- well, do you really want to walk down that path!? 3. He announced Uber is far behind Ola in India. Today, I saw a post from Sajith Pai stating the Entrackr report that says Ola is #3 in India’s ride-hailing play, behind Uber and Rapido. https://lnkd.in/gVyzHJui First, why does a product need a nationalist pitch in the first place - trust your team! Second, why would you make such unsolicited and controversial remarks, especially ahead of one of the most important moments in your company’s life - its IPO.

One of the possible side effects of the astounding wealth generated by companies like #nvidia #tsmc etc is that we will see these highly educated UHNIs with an increased appetite for risk. This should translate to 1. increased spending in luxury goods/properties etc 2. more angel investments, vc funds and startups coming up 3. and likely more vacancies in these companies than earlier ;) Excited to see what comes out of #2 in the next 5 years especially in India. #managergyaan #predictions #nvidiamafia

Let’s not do this. China manufactures for Apple but doesn’t own the ip or the profits. To lead in AI, India shouldn’t be the back operations of data annotation etc We have the most developers and most IT tech talent and we own minimal intellectual property and none of the profits. So, let’s not do this. To lead in AI, we just need a few leading teams building and open sourcing foundational AI models from scratch. That will then nurture and grow the AI ecosystem around those initiatives. And not some transformers based, Llama fork. Can be state space models.. or some newer math. There’s literally so much innovation possible in AI today. The AI hardware is improving at rapid space, so infra can be solved. We just need to now leverage that and innovate on top of it. Trying to be inspired by what China did in the past is just lack of imagination. India can be extraordinary at being a leader in AI it’s own way, just like we carved out our own path in space tech.

Massive Scale: Achieving 600 to 800 million UIDs in four years, with 1 to 4 million enrollments daily, showcases the project's sheer scale, volume, computational efficiency, availability, and security. Biometric Matching: The world's largest biometric identity platform, handling 200 trillion biometric matches per day and 2 PB of data, is still astonishing. It was funny and interesting to see how our "Safari suit" culture still influences India today 😊.
