This year saw a 50% increase in corporate sponsorships for Pride events compared to 2023. 2. Media and Entertainment: Platforms like Hulu, ABC, and Tubi featured extensive LGBTQ+ content. For example, Hulu’s Pride programming attracted millions of viewers, showcasing the community’s diverse stories and voices. 3. Corporate Initiatives: Major brands like Nike and Adidas launched interactive campaigns. Nike’s “Be True” collection and Adidas’ Pride apparel supported LGBTQ+ athletes and influencers, promoting inclusivity in sports. Over 70+ major brands launched specific Pride Month campaigns this year. 4. Educational Content: Apple featured stories of LGBTQ+ individuals, while Microsoft provided training and resources to foster inclusive workplaces. The NYC Pride Parade alone saw over 1 million participants, with numerous brands involved in sponsorships and floats. As a leader I want to share my expectation is not for anyone to be working certain hours (or extra hours), and to be a place of comfort for my team to talk to me when they need help prioritizing or offloading things on their plate. It’s not every day that friends reach out, knowing I work in consumer insights and brand strategy, and ask, “Did you see this?” This week, it’s been all about Jaguar. The buzz has been overwhelming, and the unsolicited feedback I’ve heard hasn’t been great. I’ve been avoiding the news lately (political season survival strategy), so I’m still catching up on the broader conversation, but... WOW. A quote from this article really struck me: “It’s unusual to see [that] a storied brand so radically wants to change its position. That’s brave, and brave can be foolish if the customers do not like it.” This is such a fascinating experiment. For me, it reinforces the mantra: “Brands that lead with consumers win.” That means both legacy customers and the aspirational target audience. ✅🖥️ DIGIDAY (11/27): “Five media buyers and marketers told Digiday they’d be experimenting with the new (Amazon ad) formats on their media plans over the long weekend. They’ll be looking at whether viewers actually use the interactive ad formats to purchase items, and what impact they can have for their brands. As such, they’re setting aside small experimental budgets — in most cases, less than 10% of their monthly media spend — to use on the formats. Amazon introduced three “interactive” formats for its streaming inventory back in May. They include video ads that let customers add products directly to their cart with a remote click; interactive pause ads that drive brand engagement whenever viewers take a break; and shoppable carousel ads that allow customers to browse and buy multiple products right from ad breaks on Prime Video. 130.4MM subscribers use Amazon’s ad-supported Prime tier, some 80% of its overall customer base, according to eMarketer. With consumers primed to take advantage of the annual discounting event — and a large audience expected to stream Prime’s Black Friday coverage of the Kansas Chiefs versus the Las Vegas Raiders — it’s a chance to take those formats for a spin. Amazon’s Thanksgiving weekend includes its second year of NFL coverage on Prime. Advertiser demand around the Black Friday game is high, and the platform hung up a “sold out” sign back in October. Google Pixel, Solo Stove, Ralph Lauren Fragrances, Microsoft, and Uber Eats are among the brands that made the cut, according to an Amazon spokesperson. Publicis and Omnicom are both up 8% YTD while other agencies are struggling. What can we learn from their success? They’ve both carved out advantages through tech and data that allow them to deliver personalized experiences at scale — in fact, they both used that phrase in their most recent earnings calls. For Publicis, this boils down to the acquisition of Epsilon in 2019. For Omnicom, it is their Omni platform. In both cases, what this is really about is incremental reach and scale. How do we take high volumes of data and turn it into impactful connections with customizable audiences we’re not reaching elsewhere? In a market rife with fraud, brand-unsafe inventory, and MFAs, curation is the name of the game. There’s a lot of data out there; the media buyers that have the tech investments required to make it useful are the ones who will win.

Textbook anticompetitive consolidation. We should all take note 👇 These are two goliaths with largely identical businesses. In a merger expect massive cuts to slash “redundancy” and create fewer choices in the market, that will in turn: ☑️ squeeze the labor market (us) ☑️ gut storied agency brands ☑️ degrade quality of work and service ☑️ stifle innovation ☑️ insulate against competitive pressures that force improvement, responsibility, and accountability Omnicom and IPG are already massive and have realized efficiencies of scale… at this point how can bigger really produce better? These types of deals rarely result in better outcomes for anyone except shareholders. The entire industry, regulators, and clients should be wary 👀

Are brands pulling back on support for Pride this year? It has been a few weeks since I chatted about this with Allison Carter at Ragan Communications and PR Daily and I still believe that they are not. Rather, I think we are seeing fewer brands veering into the rainbow-washing space given the heightened risk of criticism from LGBTQ+ advocates (and vocal anti-LGBT activists) on inauthentic or superficial and performative allyship. However, those brands that understand that action earns trust are continuing to support Pride by uplifting their work to embrace inclusive policies, creating impact-focused purpose-driven campaigns, and promoting a culture of belonging by celebrating and uplifting their employees, consumers, and partners. These brands are not backing away from those values and there is plenty of data to show that this will continue to drive growth, as noted by this year's #ReturnOnLeadership (ROL) Index, comprised of companies with strategic clarity, alignment, focus, and a sense of meaning, showing that the ROL Index (+49%) has outpaced both the S&P 500 (+26%) and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (+11%) over the past three years.
