In our quest to honor diverse learners, we must go beyond just teaching to the standards or the textbook. Content and activities should be enriched and tailored to reflect our students' varied backgrounds. As a secondary ELA teacher, I included American Literature from diverse voices like Zora Neale Hurston, Amy Tan, and N. Scott Momaday.
