“I’ve been a psychometrician at Kaplan for the last two years where John has served as Vice President (VP) over my department. This gives me an excellent bottom-up perspective about his skill sets. Additionally, I’ve been in the testing industry for nearly 30 years and I have served under many wonderful administrators. Therefore, I have an established frame of reference against which to judge John. John has been among the best VPs I’ve ever worked for. Many factors go into forging a successful administrator. Two are certainly prior education and work experience. John received his Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology with a specialization in Quantitative Psychology in 2007 from New York University. After receiving his Ph.D., John joined Caliper Management where he remained until 2011. Although he began as a Senior Research Scientist at Caliper, he was quickly promoted to Senior Vice President of Research and Development. The fact that John moved so quickly up Caliper’s hierarchy says something very positive about him. John spent the next two years as President of I/O Solutions (an organization that works in the public-safety testing space). During his tenure, John helped stand up computer-based testing and scoring-analytics capabilities. John has been Vice President at Kaplan for the last eight years. John was surely among the first VPs whose functional groups integrated data science and psychometrics units. John adeptly melded both worlds to benefit Kaplan’s mission. John’s rich experiences in these fields enable him to speak on many issues to a variety of audiences. John has unique perspectives that allow him to consider not only the theoretical underpinnings of his opinions but also how statistical and psychometric decisions relate to more practical applications. His ability to see the “big picture” would surely make him a valuable asset to any organization. John’s communication skills are excellent. His technical writing is definitely at a professional level as is his informal communications (e.g., emails). During presentations, he focuses on essential ideas and conveys difficult concepts in easily understandable terms. John has personal qualities that make him a good administrator as well. In his interactions with others, he is sensitive (though not overly so), cooperative, and pleasant. He has a wonderful sense of humor. While John is not a micromanager, he definitely keeps tabs on the progress of key projects and provides positive support to his team members along the way. In summary, John is an exceptional individual who will be a great asset to many organizations. He will be a tireless advocate for the inclusion of analytics and psychometrics in organizational decision-making and will make compelling business cases for the importance of levering analytics for positive organizational outcomes. I have no reservations about giving him my strongest recommendation. ”
