Great leadership from CA and Caltrans to responsibly leverage GenAI to solve real problems- like traffic safety (and more). Their approach to pilot solutions internally amongst staff before determining is a good example of ensuring these tools augment the human workforce and assessing how they are working- or not. Consistent evaluation is necessary for GenAI- it’s not “set it and forget it”. I am looking forward to seeing the outcomes of these pilots, learning key lessons from CA and ultimately scaling what works to communities nationwide. #THISisITS. At PRWeek’s #AIDeciphered today! The first session I attended was focused on generative AI and its impact on the PR function where Jess Ruderman at PRWeek spoke with Mariana Agathoklis Schlock at Verizon, João Belo at Takeda, Kathy Bloomgarden at Ruder Finn and Andy Pharoah at Mars. A few highlights and takeaways from the conversation for me included: 💡Kathy mentioning that “we need to move people from the fear to creativity” when it comes to leveraging AI, calling out that there’s a chance for communicators to have a bigger seat at the table and how we are best suited to help companies navigate these changes. 💡João being transparent about how when he’s interviewing talent he looks for employees that are comfortable with analytics and technology. 💡Mariana making an excellent observation both how every generation brings something different to the workforce, all of which should be embraced — which was later echoed by Kathy Bloomgarden when she spoke about reverse mentoring. When asked what they wish everyone in the room would leave with Andy Pharoah encourage people to be interested in AI, João Belo said to lead by example (in reference to using these tools), Kathy Bloomgarden said to stretch your stride, and Mariana Agathoklis Schlock recommended we use AI to track our brands reputation and really see the impact of our work.

Given the rapid decline in local media coverage and the questions about its economics, automated government transparency will become more critical. This is just the start of what can and should be done. Very excited to see how it plays out. Also curious how they solve issues around hallucinations (I assume they have a human in the loop?) and are likely using RAG to fine-tune/reduce risks of errors. #LLMs #AI
