Read a great article earlier today about the FTC's move to ban noncompete agreements, and it got me thinking... In my time in talent acquisition, I've seen firsthand how clear career paths and strong, widely available training opportunities aren't just perks - they're the cornerstone of a compelling employer brand. Here's the deal: Candidates today are savvy! They're not just looking for a job; they're looking for a journey. A journey that promises growth, learning, and a chance to level up their skills. And guess what? Companies that map out transparent career trajectories and invest in employee development aren't just winning the talent war -- they're also nurturing a workforce that's engaged, loyal, and all-in on the mission. So, here's my take: as talent professionals, we have to make sure our company's offerings aren't just competitive, but crystal clear. We need to shout it from the rooftops (or at least our LinkedIn pages 😉 ) that we're committed to our people's growth. Because at the end of the day, the best 'noncompete' isn't a legal clause - it never was! It's a culture that champions and celebrates every step of the employee journey.

"What are your salary expectations?" Another dreaded interview question. Most candidates are asked this question in the early stages of an interview process, or sometimes right before recieving an offer. 💲 My best advice here is to avoid tying yourself to a particular number, and show that you are flexible and willing to negotiate by giving a range! 💲 Additionally, conducting research on the company & the role you are interviewing for is important. 📢 Staffing Firms Take Notice 🛑 Sending unsolicited, mass emails claiming to have "perfect candidates" is not an effective way to gain business. It often leads to an immediate email block. As soon as a job goes live, the spamming starts. If you truly have a strong candidate, strip the unnecessary resume details and send a personalized message that reflects an understanding of the company’s growth, culture, needs and your success placing similar talent at competitors. Take the time to research the companies you’re contacting and approach them with relevant and personalized solutions. Building professional relationships always beats generic emails. Too often, emails I receive—mostly from Texas-based firms with minimal U.S. presence—are the same generic spam. Candidates deserve better, and so do companies. Thank you for considering a more thoughtful approach.
