Case in point: Punchbowl News, Puck, The Ankler, The Free Press. 👸 CONTENT IS QUEEN: Content quality remains paramount, with an increasing emphasis on producing high-quality, impactful journalism over chasing viral clicks. Print media, while not obsolete, has evolved into more of a luxury product. Maintaining journalistic integrity while balancing depth with engagement is a constant challenge. 🌎 LOCAL VS. I wrote a piece for Politico on major trends buffeting the media including artificial intelligence, deepfakes, and fighting disinformation in an age of dwindling resources. The conclusion is that founders, CEOs, politicians and others in the public eye now face an exponentially increasing threat of reputational damage. In today’s media landscape, a single negative review can quickly go viral, a poorly phrased statement can trigger a global backlash and an ill-judged joke can wreck careers. While the media world’s pace of change is dizzying, the words written by businessman Warren Buffett almost a decade ago have never been more relevant: “It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it.” Article here: https://lnkd.in/dtTNY4PU

Top takeaways from the "Beyond the Basics: A #GenerativeAI Masterclass for Business Communicators" at #IABC24. Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending a workshop led by Matt Russell from the Mayo Clinic. The masterclass focused on leveraging #ChatGPT and other AI tools to grow and enhance business communications. Here are my top takeaways (first draft thanks to ChatGPT;) 1. Expand AI Use: Start using tools individually and then scale their uses across teams for enhanced productivity. 2. AI in Project Management: Integrate AI into project planning to streamline processes and boost efficiency. 3. Promote AI Integration: Develop strategies to advocate for AI adoption, keeping in line with policy and culture, while staying on top of advancements.

It's M&A season for media companies. And The Walt Disney Company, like others, faces a host of questions about its future as people tune out linear TV but the rise of streaming hasn't translated into profits. Bob Iger bought some time with a rosy Q1 earnings report, but some think he should sell ESPN and its linear channels or the company altogether. Disney just appointed two senior execs to oversee M&A and corporate strategy as it considers its future. Alphabet Inc. will likely post its slowest revenue growth in four quarters tomorrow, hit by stiff competition that weighed on its mainstay Google search business along with weaker YouTube ad spending. Despite ramping up investment in artificial intelligence to boost its cloud computing business, the growth in the segment is expected to be eclipsed by the slowdown in its core businesses. Social media giant TikTok and Amazon's prime video have been snatching up ad dollars from Google as they become increasingly popular with advertisers and consumers. This Gallup piece is interesting. On the one hand, it's disheartening, though not surprising, to see such a partisan gap in trust in media. Has anyone studied why this is? Can (should?) anything be done about this? On a perhaps separate note, it's encouraging is to see how Rs and Ds both seem to have a lot of trust in local government: https://lnkd.in/gKdePu-M. Bloomberg News: "In a new partnership with Vote.org, people will be able to register to vote, sign up for election reminders and make a plan for Election Day from within Snapchat. In 2020, the app registered 1.2 million people to vote, making it a prime platform for political advertisers to reach voters. More than 80 million Americans of voting age use Snapchat every month, according to the company. Snap will also prominently feature politically focused content from NBC News, including on-the-ground coverage of key events from conventions to rallies and speeches. In order to help those users make more informative decisions, Snap launched in 2016 its Good Luck America news show, which offers perspective and explanation around key events from both political parties. This year the show will launch a new series called Campus Tour from colleges across the country. Also, Snap’s partnership with NBC News’ “Stay Tuned’ program will present a series that talks with Gen Z voters in local, state and federal elections about issues that resonate with them. Political ads on Snap are vetted through a 'rigorous human review process,' as well as fact-checking with nonpartisan partner Poynter Institute, and a registration and certification process for potential ad buyers.
