Menlo's 2024 Enterprise AI Report -- hot off the press! 🔥 Enterprise AI spending is continuing to grow - up 6x now from 2023 at a staggering $13.8B. To call out a few findings 🔎 - AI's scope has broadened to every department. Enterprises note the most valuable use-cases are in code copilots, support chatbots, enterprise search / data extraction, and meeting summarization. While every department has received a chunk of the enterprise AI budget (IT, support, marketing, sales, etc.), the technical departments still command the largest share of generative AI spend. - With all this spend, enterprises need something clearly valuable and relevant. Decision-makers rank having 'easily quantifiable ROI' and 'customizability' as the top 2 factors when selecting generative AI tools. - 2024 is the year of vertical AI applications. Healthcare, legal, financial services as well as media and entertainment continue to see a number of vertical AI applications tailored to their needs. - Foundational models continue to make-up the bulk of AI investments, especially as enterprises move toward multi-modal approaches. Interesting that BYOC was mentioned in Confluent's acquistion of Warpstream. This is not disimilar to what we've heard from enterprise customers especially as it relates to third party vendors that touch criticial data. Instead of moving data across silos, enterprises want to have full control over the their infra configuration (hardware, cloud, network) especially as enterprises scale up AI adoption. I predict that BYOC may become the a preferred delivery method for data intensive apps where data leakage amd security are top of mind, while serverless, managed SaaS remain preferred delivery method for application and productivity software. What an incredible week at AWS Re:Invent! Some of my key takeaways from the week: 1) Power of 3 - some powerful highlights during Ruba Borno’s partner keynote demonstrating the power of AWS + SI + ISV ecosystem in delivering critical industry solutions that solve real customer problems: for example, leading SI partner Slalom joining forces with AWS to deliver AI solutions at Bayer Corp Science and SI partner Ahead teaming up with Wiz and AWS to solve cyber security problems at TurnItIn. 2) Marketplace - the incredible impact that AWS Marketplace is having on many partner businesses, and in some cases, to the point of becoming “material” to the financial performance of several publicly traded ISVs, including ServiceNow and Atlassian. And this is not just for commercial enterprises: AWS also disclosed huge growth in Public Sector transactions via Marketplace which crossed $1bn in bookings this year. 3) Security Focus - new security specializations like the AWS Security Lake Ready Specialization and new commitments to open standards like OCSF that will make it easier to normalize and ingest security data from different sources; and the launch of new security services like the AWS Security & Incident Response that demonstrate AWS’s commitment to bringing new security tools that make it easier for customers to protect against cyber security threats.
