Of note: Your health records are coming to new apps This in an interesting change, and a somewhat Epic change. All puns intended. If you don’t know, the leading medical record storage solution in the US is operated by Epic. A rather critical problem is that if you walk (well drive) between two hospital in the US, the medical records tend not to follow you, unless you carry a large Manila envelope. Having Epic (and others) via TEFCA allow export of records arguably allows you to only carry your phone, which is a very siginificant change. This also (arguably) opens up a huge new innovation sector. Epic is one of the organizations that has been helping the US federal government establish the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement, or TEFCA. The goal being to iron out both the legal and technical requirements for sharing patients' data at scale. Health-care data in the U.S. has historically been siloed and difficult to move around. Clinics, hospitals and health systems can store their information in a variety of formats across dozens of different vendors, and there hasn't been a trusted nationwide mechanism in place for transporting it securely. This means if a patient moves to a different state or visits a new hospital, their medical records tend not follow. PS. 💯 agree with this viewpoint Today there are hundreds of products in every vertical that should really be features not products 🤯 Who actually enjoys having 20+ software applications to run a business? I’ve yet to meet a degenerate who does 😂 Building a compound startup or true system of record is not for the faint hearted. Everything is harder. Navigating through the complexity and the breadth vs depth conundrum is agonising 🛣️ 🧟‍♂️ But if you can stick the course and execute on this strategy successfully to build the ‘one stop shop for X’ both the customer and the software provider get incredible rewards 🏆🏆 #compound #startup

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to scaling a business, but the key is making intentional decisions about how you choose to grow. 🥾 Bootstrapping gives you control but might mean slower growth 🏦 Venture capital fuels fast growth but comes with trade-offs 🔋 A hybrid approach can balance both—but it requires discipline. At York IE, we believe that your growth strategy should reflect your goals, values, and market reality. Don’t chase hypergrowth for the sake of it. Be pragmatic, preserve optionality, and stay in control of your company’s fate.

Do you need a big ego to really succeed as a founder? I have met and interacted with some of the most powerful people in the world. For example, here’s proof of me and Bill Gates hanging out at the #GoalKeepers event in NYC. However, what truly matters to me is my obsession with meeting interesting people and creating technology that supports this vision. Do I have a big ego? This is an interesting question that I have thought a lot about. My answer is both yes and no. Yes, because my ego helps me push my ultimate mission of connecting the world through technology for the betterment of humanity. It supports my vision, which goes beyond personal gain. No, because a successful founder also needs humility and openness to learn from others. An inflated ego that prioritizes personal gain over the collective good can be detrimental, and will kill you. I think we're seeing the dawn of a new post-SaaS industry. Back in 2010s cloud ushered in SaaS and with it many new jobs and hugely valuable companies created. Today, we've seen the release of very early versions of this with Microsoft's 'autonomous agents' layer, Anthropic's new screen control capabilities and AgentForce from Salesforce. But if you look at the startups and early adopters we're seeing much more interesting activity. I spoke with Daniel of Relevance AI about how some customers are thinking about creating the role of an ‘AI Workforce Manager’– someone who is responsible for managing not people but AI agents in the business. Earlier this week Texture, led by CEO & co-founder Sanjiv Sanghavi, announced its $7.5m seed round of fundraising with participation from Abstract Ventures, Day One Ventures, Equal Ventures, Lerer Hippeau, and a handful of angels. Dorothy Chang and I feel fortunate to count ourselves among the “handful of angels.” We didn’t invest just because Sanjiv is a close friend - though knowing him for over a decade has given us a lot of insight into his mind and how he operates. We invested for a lot of the typical reasons a VC would: Solving big problems with big potential returns - Venture investments only make sense if they have the chance to make massive returns. Texture is building the data infrastructure for energy networks - becoming a common data collection and sharing platform for every player in the energy grid, no matter the type of energy. There is already a huge gaping problem and a huge market here. Building for an inevitable future - On a macro level, as a society, we are moving more and more toward complex, interconnected energy sources as we optimize for the right balance of efficiency, sustainability and costs. Unique insight and founder-market fit - At a first glance, Texture seems like a big departure from what we originally knew Sanjiv from, as a Co-Founder of ClassPass. But since then, he has also played roles as the Chief Product officer at Arcadia, a successful energy data company (Arcadia’s CEO is also an investor in Texture) as well as an investor at Day One Ventures, investing in the energy/climate tech sector.  More details in this week's post: https://lnkd.in/eGBzXHwC

Congrats to Vultr on raising $333M from AMD and LuminArx Capital, achieving a $3.5B valuation. Impressively, this is Vultr’s first-ever capital raise, having been fully bootstrapped and funded by operating cash flows. It’s a great example of a disciplined growth strategy, which minimizes dilution and compounds equity returns — nail the business model, prove out ability to scale with attractive unit economics, and THEN (perhaps) use outside capital to accelerate growth. #AI #Cloud #CapitalMarkets #VC
