Global Rights is a human rights organization that protects the rights of marginalized populations. We firmly believe in the dignity and equality of all people. My involvement with GR began in '94 when I joined as a volunteer lawyer helping create the first and largest legal-service organization in Cambodia, which became known as the Cambodian Defenders Project (CDP).

Founded in 1978, GR is a human rights capacity-building organization working in partnership with local activists in Africa, Asia, and Latin America to promote and protect the rights of marginalized populations. Through broad-based technical assistance and training, we strengthen partners to document and expose human rights abuses, conduct community outreach and mobilization, advocate for legal and policy reform, and provide legal and paralegal services. Asia- Global Rights has had an on-the-ground presence in Asia for nearly 20 years and is currently working in Afghanistan, implementing access to justice programming aimed at building Afghan civil society's capacity to educate their communities about human rights laws and standards, provide legal and paralegal services, advocate for justice sector reforms, and promote women’s rights. Africa- Global Rights first began working in Africa in 1995 when we opened an office in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Since then, we have expanded to Algeria, Burundi, Morocco, Nigeria, Tunisia, and Uganda, where we run extensive access to justice and women’s rights programming. Our Natural Resources and Human Rights Initiative operates in the DRC, the Republic of Congo, and the Republic of Guinea. Latin America: Over the past 30 years, GR has worked in more than ten countries across Latin America to promote and protect individuals’ civil and political rights. Since 2001, our activities focus on advancing racial and ethnic equality for Afro-descendants and indigenous peoples. We currently work with Afro-descendant civil society organizations in Brazil, Colombia, and Peru to improve their human rights situations in those countries, as well as with regional networks, to combat discrimination across Latin America and bring these issues onto the regional and international stages, where institutions such as the Organization of American States and the United Nations develop and enforce human rights standards.
