Interesting that two of the largest fund raises over the past few weeks are for layer-1 blockchain builders. Berachain announced on Friday that it closed a $100m round led by Framework Ventures and the Abu Dhabi branch of Brevan Howard Digital. Just a few days earlier, Monad Labs announced that it had finalized a $225 million round led by Paradigm. These are big rounds, and the timing and size suggests that venture investors are still betting on engine builders. While I’m sure public-facing applications are also getting some funding, I haven’t seen them get this size of allocation. A new proposal aimed at improving the Ethereum network's performance has been put forward by developer Ben Adams. Known as EIP-7781, the proposal seeks to reduce the slot times on Ethereum’s Layer 1 from 12 seconds to 8 seconds, which could make the network approximately 33% faster. If implemented, this change could greatly benefit rollups, as their architecture relies on the Layer 1 sequencer and is limited by the existing block times. While this proposal has the potential to enhance efficiency and scalability, it’s important to consider how it may affect network stability and security in the long run. #Ethereum #DigitalAssets #Innovation

To boost its adoption on Solana, PayPal has been subsidizing an incentive program since early July, where users of the DeFi protocol Kamino Finance earn yields between 16% and 20% on their deposited PYUSD stablecoins. Since the program's inception, PYUSD's supply on Solana has increased from 79M to around 240M, making PYUSD the third-largest stablecoin on the Solana network after USDC and USDT. Intersting to observe how PayPal is fighting the uphill battle for stable coin maket shares. 16%-20% doesn’t seem to be sustainable, though.

Blockchain was never about crypto Or, metaverse for that matter. . Blockchain, or more appropriately, Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), has always been about improving efficiencies within and across organizations. Many years ago (far too many to count), I had the fortunate opportunity to attend graduate school in the U.K. Sure, the courses were challenging, but it was the simple task of moving money from one country to another to pay for it that caused all the stress. One would think it would be easy, especially since I was using the same bank, one branch in the U.S. and the other in the U.K. But I quickly realized while trying to get a student loan: The two branches were complete strangers. After school, my monthly loan payments became a painful process. Between unfavorable exchange rates, costly wire transfers, and the manual effort required each month to make a payment, it was ridiculously challenging. So, I opted to move my student loan back to the U.S., but of course, the bank couldn't treat my loan as a student loan once it came to the U.S. so I had to get a personal loan to pay off my student loan. Are you kidding me? So, I ended up paying higher interest rates just to make my life easier – simply because the bank couldn't get its act together internally to streamline the process between branches. This is just one example of the many inefficiencies that exist within large enterprise when it comes to tracking assets / data across the organization. This is where DLT/Blockchain comes in. At its core, blockchain excels at connecting disparate data and partners who need visibility into the movement of assets. And when I say asset, I mean anything that has value to someone: a driver's license, passport, mortgage, legal contracts, products, financial transactions, etc. Citi seems to have figured this out, launching its Token Services for Cash. This system processes multimillion-dollar cross-border transactions between branches using a private and permissioned blockchain solely owned and managed by Citi. While many organizations are experimenting around the hype of blockchain with crypto, digital assets, or pushing to get clients to join blockchain networks and having limited success, Citi's doing innovation right. The key to innovation? Start small and remove friction in order to test and learn. With Citi's implementation, "clients are not required to hold or manage any tokens to access the services." Citi has removed the friction to implement while they adopt, learn, and scale... making it easier for clients to benefit from blockchain technology without overhauling their entire systems. Completely agree with Dante A. Disparte 's take on mainstream stablecoin payments, but a critical component for mainstream adoption is speed and ease of use. Arculus technology allows for digital asset payments directly from self custody (including secure cold storage) with a simple and familiar tap-to-pay over Visa or MasterCard rails or as a direct web3 payment. https://lnkd.in/eQhgkZDF

Making guesses "when BTC 100,000" is not amusing nor edgy any more — mission accomplished, almost! Now, we should turn our imagination to "when 100,000 distinct blockchains"? We are somewhere right under 1,500. In BTC "years" it looks like now is~ April 2017 when the price was in the USD 1300 range.
