Computer Use - Agentic AI interacting with the GUI Think of it like teaching Claude to use a computer just like we do - no special tricks needed! Anthropic just announced this cool new feature called "computer use" for Claude 3.5 Sonnet, and it's pretty game-changing. Instead of needing fancy technical connections or special programming, Claude can now do what we all do - look at the screen, move the mouse around, click stuff, and type things out. The best part? All those older programs and software that companies have been using for years? They don't need any updates or changes. Claude can just hop in and use them exactly as they are, just like a regular user would. It's kind of like giving Claude its own virtual hands and eyes to work with computers! Anthropic is just the first Frontier model to release a public version of Computer Use. OpenAI and Google are not far behind. This will expand quickly so don't get left behind. Want to know the history of AI in 20 seconds? This clip from Amy Webb is a bit of fun from her annual keynote at SXSW this year where she breaks down the impact of each technology trend, industry by industry. The 2024 report from Future Today Institute is 979 pages long 🤯 with over 100 trends in #AI alone! It's a GREAT document. [Link to download the full PDF in the comments]. I've been using this document to train a large language model (LLM) Llama-3 this week, to help some presenters quickly add some more compelling stories and statistics into their keynotes. Check out the report - and if you have the means, try feeding it into a LLM to have a conversation with it. I'm using IBM's watsonx Consulting Assistants to "Chat with Documents" asking the report such questions as "Which are the top 5 insights I could include in my presentation to the CFO of a large financial institution, who cares about reskilling her employees and is apprehensive about digital workers". The results were impressive. If you have then chance, take an hour this bank holiday weekend to watch Amy's brilliant keynote if you've not seen it already. It's 69-minutes well spent and it will make you feel a lot smarter (and much more informed) about where the world of technology is heading.

This article reveals how decisions about millions/billions of dollars are made: some high-level exec believes/or doesn't in a technology (iPhone, LLMs....). Whether you know it or not, if you have a US retirement account, you likely hold Microsoft stock. As a stockholder and employee, I'd love to see more data-driven decisions. LLM's might be a mind-blowing scientific advancement, but maybe get solid data about how useful they are, and whether the monetary and climate costs are worth it before betting so heavily? https://lnkd.in/gqmCqnSB

"If you don't get in trouble twice a year for advocating for the customer for doing something that you feel strongly about then you're not pushing hard enough." What a great quote from the first episode of Scott Hanselman's YT series "Scott & Mark Learn To...", about Influencing Without Authority! Mark Russinovich explains that even as the Azure CTO, he can't simply tell people what to do and expect them to follow. Instead, he needs to influence them and gain buy-in from teams through motivation and vision. ➩ Building Trust and Capital: Influence grows over time by building trust and showing a track record of successful decisions. This "capital" helps leaders steer their teams toward the right direction. ➩ Resource Allocation: Prioritizing important tasks over urgent ones is crucial but challenging. Leaders must navigate between the urgent demands of the moment and the long-term goals that need attention. ➩ Empowering Teams: Effective leadership involves empowering team members to make decisions, setting clear priorities, and trusting them to handle tasks without micromanaging. Leaders should focus on guiding and providing vision, rather than controlling every detail. ➩ Deep Understanding: Leaders should have a deep understanding of the technical and operational levels below them to make informed decisions and to abstract concepts for their teams effectively. Going "one layer deeper" helps ensure correctness and clarity. If you're old enough, you might remember Mark from his low-level Sysinternals tools and Windows Internals books. Rest assured, Mark is still practicing what he preaches... ➩ Continuous Learning: Encouraging a mindset of learning by pushing outside of one's comfort zone—such as exploring areas outside familiar frameworks or programming languages—leads to personal and professional growth.

"It's like a fusion of style, intellect, and pioneering spirit. Where the allure of Mad Men meets NASA and the innovation of Silicon Valley." No, those words aren't describing a new Netflix series, although I'd save that episode for later, no doubt. They're actually describing the panel I'm moderating at the Honeywell Aerospace Technologies 3rd Annual Advanced Air Mobility Summit in Washington, D.C. this September. I don't need to tell you how excited I am to lead this panel. You'll see it on my face if we chat about it live over the next few weeks. Or, when you walk through the doors that September morning and we exchange glances. It feels a little like the 'odd ball out' in the programming, and it's the last one before we celebrate the day over cocktails and hors d'oeuvres in Charlie Palmer Steak again. This year, I'm bringing world-renowned advertising and behavioral science experts, NYT best-selling authors, a PhD anthropologist and Professor of Social Action, and an AAM technology expert together on stage for what is 100% guaranteed to be the most talked about topic at the reception that evening. I'll slowly sprinkle details on my speakers and other insights here as we work our way to the event. We're going to examine influence, persuasion, and social contagion -- and the role these play in increasing adoption levels of advanced air mobility worldwide. We'll look at ideas like: 1.
