Proposing a framework for #AIPolicy: The current technology-centered approach to AI policy is resulting in fragmented and piecemeal efforts -- often decoupled from the intended real-world results. We lack a comprehensive AI policy framework to support coherent and effective policy making anchored in meaningful outcomes aligned with our collective social priorities. I propose a Social Outcomes and Priorities centered (SOP) framework for AI policy, its core components, and recommendations on their implementation for #USA (the framework is applicable globally). The SOP framework provides a mechanism to build policy and regulatory structure encouraging outcomes that strengthen society’s core foundations and offer uniform and equitable benefits while minimizing the risks. Use custom GPT tools to build a leadership counsel for yourself and try it out. Let me know your thoughts on that.

Should enterprises go with LLMs or SLMs? This was the question that #Dr. Rajeev Bukralia. associate professor and graduate research faculty in at Minnesota State University, Mankato addressed today during his luncheon keynote at the Midwest Architecture Community Collaboration conference in Minneapolis. "It depends" -- is effectively what Professor Bukralia said asserting that not all use cases require LLMs. There are some use cases where SLMs are adequate and more appropriate. Professor Bukralia called out the nuances between using one versus the other [sharing the ones that stood out for me below] LLMs consume more resources at higher cost with reduced privacy and entail potential security risks while SLMs are easier to customize with faster inference times and can scale for specialized tasks as well as for mobile and edge deployments with positive impact to the environment That said, there are scenarios where LLMs would make sense despite their inherent challenges. This is a must read, must share research paper by David Gray Widder, Meredith Whittaker who have done a great job explaining the different interpretations of the meaning of "Open" in emerging AI platforms and why it matters. The IT-AAC's development of DOD's AlphaOne AI/ML Scaffolding sought to clarify these issue but to no available as CDAO continues to mis-label programs like Open DAGIRA which does not meet the NDAA MOSA mandates and exposes the lack of IT/AI engineering expertise in the Pentagon.
