Nevada! Amazon EERO got BEAD to COMPETE DIRECTLY with broadband providers in Nevada this week. WAKE UP broadband providers using EERO, today remote, tomorrow everywhere. This is brand 101: 1. THEY OWN THE SUB When there is a good experience, the NPS gain goes to EERO/Amazon. When it is bad, they call you to complain and you take the NPS hit. Good for Amazon, bad for the broadband provider. 2. THEY OWN THE DATA. When they direct market broadband .. the data makes it easy to find out who owns their product and will flip fast. YOUR CUSTOMER. 3. THEY will market prime for a broadband service - and what do they do most? Low prices. How easy is it to swap the network to satellite? EASY. 4. EERO was kind-of-fine when not Amazon, now - just no. BTW, 93% of Calix installs require a single unit .. unlike EERO which is a multiple of that in every home and therefore a higher CapEX investment. Amazon has made it VERY obvious. If EERO is in the home - the network provider is nothing but a dumb pipe .. and the one bearing the cost of any support calls or truck rolls. As an aside, hats off to Nevada. They should award to a satellite provider for the super remote areas. I always said fiber is ~95% for BEAD ... so super remote is logical. The Calix business model is helping network providers become broadband experience providers (BEP): 1. The BEP owns the sub. No sub knows who Calix is. When that 90 NPS comes in, it is all glory to the BEP. 2. The BEP owns the data. Not Calix. 3. We will never sell our products direct. Believe me, lots of people would LOVE to buy a GigaSpire and our 1-mile outdoor unit, or our -70C/+70C outdoor unit but they cannot. Only through the BEP. 4. Every day, 1800 people at Calix wake up with one mission - the BEP's success. We help them simplify (reducing opEX), innovate (increasing NPS through experiences) and grow (MAKE MONEY .. Every day through analytics, insights and incredible go-to-market support). We only succeed if the BEP succeeds. We are all in, unlike others. Ya, that includes Plume who wants to be like Amazon - by selling on Amazon and has a CEO (recently fired) who made it clear, he will sell your data if he can.
