- I used to sit right outside my VP's office, AKA my boss's boss. He would stroll by my desk on the regular. One day he came by, handed me a project and asked, can you work on this for me? I was slammed, but I said yes and thankfully was able to knock it out. The next day, he came by again, handed me a bigger project and though it was a lot to take on, I did. A few days later, he came to my desk for the third time and before handing me my next assignment, he said, you know what they say? I stared at him. The reward for good work is more work. I was less than thrilled. I already had plenty of work to do and the extra work he was giving me was not what my job title, job description, or compensation reflected. Not only that, he hadn't approved this new project with my boss. How was I supposed to divide my time between his project and hers? As the days wore on, I became increasingly resentful.
