- I hate math, and math kind of hates me. I always got good grades in school, unless it was math. I got the basics, but beyond that, it just didn't make sense. My math teachers always looked at me like I was crazy. They got frustrated with me and I got annoyed with them. Why didn't I get it? Well, it didn't come naturally to me, so I just put my head down and tried to survive. Now, when it came to reading and writing in school, I'd light up. I loved the written word and I felt like I was in my element. I aced every test and essay. It was like I had found my sweet spot. It was how my brain worked. I realize now that math isn't my strength. I don't see the world through numbers. I see it through words. When it came to math class, I had to survive. But when it came to literature, I thrived.
