- [Instructor] All right, asset lifecycles. What is an asset lifecycle? Well, very simply, if you compare it to a car, when you buy the car, it's brand new. How often will it need to be serviced and updated? Some cars have software services that you have to pay for monthly, like satellite radio or things along that line. How long do you expect this car to live and survive? What is going to be the lifecycle of that car when you're done, is it going to be a trade in? Are you going to drive it till it falls apart? Or maybe you're going to donate it to an organization or privately sell it? All of these are questions you need to ask yourself before you purchase a car and before you purchase software, thinking about how that will work, or hardware. So let's take a look at some things you want to think about when purchasing software assets. Lifecycle and upgrades. How will this work? What is the lifecycle of that software asset?
