- [Instructor] SPSS isn't like every other program out there. It's got some unusual features that are distinctive. And I learned to work with data on SPSS, so I assume these things were normal, but they are not widespread. One of the things that is specific to SPSS primarily is the use of labels. It's sort of like having two layers to your data. What we have right here is the dataset. I've got 04_02_StateTrends_Begin opened up, and this is the result of the import we did from our spreadsheet. And you can see here that we've got these numbers that don't mean anything to us, and we've got these cryptic variable names. And if we hover over it, it tells us that its name is b5_1, it's numeric. Now, in a lot of programs, you just deal with the data as it is. But again, SPSS allows you to put these layers on the top.
