From the course: Strategies for Female Empowerment

What is empowerment?

- Fear, courage, loss and hope. These are the reasons women like you are stepping forward into more powerful ways of being in the world. But it can be confusing to know what to do or how to do it. Perhaps you can relate. On the one hand you see women represented in all sectors and in all industries, leaving companies and entire nations. But you also know that women still make less money than men. Most can't seem to break through the glass ceiling and many continue to struggle with the conflicting demands of work and family, which is why this course is so important. With a few strategies and skills, you have the power to create change for yourself and others. My name is Alexis Kanda-Olmstead. I work in talent management and specialize in diversity, equity and inclusion. I am passionate about helping women and people with marginalized identities step into their power. Empowerment is the process of accessing and using your personal power. It's about speaking your truth and being heard and it's about taking action, making conscious choices that support you at work and in life. In this course, you will learn how to identify and overcome barriers that exist because of your gender and other identities. I'll show you ways to increase your confidence that do not include acting more like a man, and I'll help you build your resilience and strength. While it will take more than just individual women like you and me to bring an end to a systemic problem, like gender and equality, it's the best place to start. Transformation begins within. It begins with you. Are you ready? Let's go.
