7 Porsche Innovations That Changed The Automotive World https://lnkd.in/eUqKrzNS Porsche's contributions to the automotive world are virtually innumerable, but 7 are definitively noteworthy. While brands like Toyota and Honda are known for offering nearly indestructible vehicles at entry-level pricing, they aren't exactly what get self-proclaimed gearheads up in the morning. This is the niche that Porsche has filled over its rich 93-year history, cementing itself as a brand synonymous with reliability, trustworthiness, performance, and greatness. But despite being fawned over for its spectacular sports cars, Porsche has made several great contributions to the automotive world that have shaped it for not just enthusiasts but mass-market car shoppers, too, and we're not just talking about how the GT3 RS continuously proves that 500 horsepower is all the power you need. Two of the most notable and unbelievable include Ferdinand Porsche, the company's founder, being credited with inventing both the first all-wheel drive vehicle and the first hybrid vehicle in history. While these may be two of the most incredible, there are many other contributions Ferdinand's company has made over the years with equally palpable contributions to the automotive industry at large (...).

The automotive World changed & evolved drastically over the decades so I'm not sure that talking in terms of excessive overall sizes still does matter. In my honest opinion, if you want to have enough road presence you need to play with size too if the general trend is going towards bigger vehicles. #porsche #supercars #porsche911

This week Alan Amici discusses 2nd quarter auto sales and electric sports cars. "Is performance only the domain of ICE vehicles? From the recent announcements and press releases, traditional performance car makers see an electric-powered future. Porsche, Chevy, and even Ferrari will offer EVs to entice a broad range of enthusiasts. Will drivers miss the throaty (or high pitched) roar of gas-powered engines? Apparently, not all EVs will be silent runners as Ferrari hints at acoustics being part of the experience." Read the full Hot Topics article: https://lnkd.in/gXcZkF2G

It's two years or so since Dario Franchitti drove a mule of the T50 based on an Ultima, following a tradition established in 1991 when Ron Dennis, Harold Dermott and Gordon Murray arrived at Lee Noble's premises in a black BMW. https://lnkd.in/eWA2gC6F Back then McLaren Cars purchased a pair of Ultima cars (later named Albert and Edward) to perform practical testing of various kinds. You can read more if you are able to find a second hand copy of Doug Nye's book 'Driving Ambition'. Nowadays it seems somewhat 'exotic' to use the Ultima as a mule due to its desirability as a road car, but if you're doing a very limited super/hypercar then it probably forms a good starting point. For numerous years the company was run by Ted Marlow and son Richard, who is now the MD. The tradition was very much followed also during the development of the MP4-12C as this photo documents. Ultima were always keen to help. Ferrari were ... not too happy about the usage of a 360 but that's a story for another time. As a note, there ARE Ultimas out there with some bespoke V10 and V12 engines installed by their owners, in case the T50 has inspired anyone to spec their own mid-engined driver-focused car. It goes to show that a company started in Leicester and lovingly cared for can make technology that allows advanced R&D in the sector of supercars and hypercars.

The delivery of the first Mercedes in 1901 marked the inception of a brand that would transcend the automotive industry, becoming a byword for luxury and performance worldwide. This pivotal moment occurred on December 22, 1901, when the Mercedes 35 PS, devised by Wilhelm Maybach and named after Mercedes Jellinek, the daughter of automobile entrepreneur Emil Jellinek, was delivered. This event didn't just herald the birth of a new automobile; it signified the emergence of a brand that would set benchmarks in automotive engineering, design, and luxury for over a century. The Mercedes 35 PS itself was revolutionary, boasting innovations that set new standards in car performance, safety, and comfort, laying the groundwork for the Mercedes-Benz legacy of 'The Best or Nothing'. From pioneering the first cars to setting the pace in Formula 1 racing, Mercedes-Benz's journey from that first delivery to its current status as a global icon encapsulates a relentless pursuit of excellence. Today, the name Mercedes is synonymous with class, sophistication, and the ultimate driving experience, a testament to the enduring legacy of that first Mercedes vehicle. #milestonesinhistory #automotivehistory #MercedesLegacy #WilhelmMaybach #EmilJellinek #LuxuryPerformance #RevolutionaryEngineering #Formula1Innovator
