But what if you don’t have access to these features? You can still achieve similar results with a few simple techniques—and stay in control as the human-in-the-loop. Here’s how: 1️⃣ Analyze Your Writing Style: Start with a prompt that asks the AI to study a few examples of your writing. This creates a quick “style guide” tailored to your tone, phrasing, and preferred structure. 2️⃣ Apply the Style Guide: Use the guide to refine drafts, expand outlines, or adjust passages to sound more like you. It’s a great way to iterate on ideas without losing your unique voice. 3️⃣ Iterate for New Contexts: Need to tweak your style for a different audience or task? Very dope and I need to explore this feature before I can say for sure, but I would use this one very mindfully (for now). This isn't a new concept. People have been trying to create style mimic prompts since generative AI got popular. The most effective approach I have seen really captured my relaxed, natural speaking voice, but also overgeneralized certain things like my style of transition. By overgeneralized, I mean that in my samples I used phrases like "on the one hand" sparingly and intentionally, but when I had the AI create an essay these phrases were everywhere and without the thoughtful decision making I try to put into writing. So, when I say mindful, I really just want you to do a lot of proofreading, because it might sound like you but not actually represent your decision making patterns. This comes back to my favorite saying: Generative AI is a springboard and not a stopping point. If you have trouble talking like you (which doesn't make sense at face value...?) and choose to use this feature to find your voice, then it can't stop at finding it. You still need to take the time to think, challenge, and revise until it feels like you.

I have used ChatGPT Plus for a while but recently made the switch to Claude Professional. I've been consistently amazed by the usability features Anthropic releases 🙌. Reluctant AI users I talk to consistently tell me the same thing: "I'd like to use AI more, but it rarely responds the way I want it to." Custom styles is the perfect example of enabling users to control an LLM's output, without getting bogged down in complex prompt engineering techniques.
