With women representing only 13.2% of inventors on European patent applications, this gender gap in innovation continues to be a significant barrier for women advancing into senior IP roles. While women are making strides in various industries, their presence in senior IP leadership across Europe remains limited, particularly in tech and engineering, where women account for just 20-30% of the top roles. Now more than ever, it’s crucial to celebrate and support the women who are breaking barriers and leading the way in the IP space. Only 11% of the S&P 500 have a female chair. The index's average board is just 34% female…. To date, 185 companies are using gender-neutral language. In Turkey, the situation is even more challenging, but at least the title "Yönetim Kurulu Başkanı" is gender-neutral.

Happy International Women’s Day! 💜 As a celebration, we're traveling back in time to spotlight the first woman US patent holder. 👩🔬 Before the late 18th century, women in the US were not considered independent entities under the law, so this prevented them from holding patents in their own names. Sybilla Righton Masters found a way around the legal legislations and managed to patent her invention in the old-fashioned jurisdiction. Masters received a patent for a corn mill in 1715, but only under her husband's name. 🌽 In 1809, Mary Dixon Kies became the first American woman to receive a US patent. Kies’s development improved the method of weaving straw with silk or thread, revolutionizing the manufacture of women's hats and bonnets.👒 This innovation not only boosted the New England hat industry at a time when the US had stopped importing European goods but also earned Kies praise from the First Lady, Dolley Madison. Although later a tragic fire in the patent office destroyed Kies' original patent, her work continues to inspire others. Today, women account for 12,8% of all US patent applications. Did you know there were changes to the Building Equality Policy? From the 1 July 2024, the Victorian Government released new Gender Equality Action Plan (GEAP) templates that focus on streamlining the policy requirements for suppliers. The main changes include: - Unifying the reporting template for RFT and delivery - Increasing the visibility of your company's improvements year-on-year - Combining GEAP and audit templates - Reducing mandatory actions and data points by 60%. This date also marks the end of the transitional period for the policy.
