Recent findings from the Bartelle Report have highlighted a concerning gap in confidence among girls when it comes to STEM careers. While interest in STEM subjects remains strong, many girls don’t feel confident pursuing STEM dream job, citing a lack of representation, mentorship, and encouragement. This confidence gap isn’t just a personal setback for the girls involved—it’s a societal issue. Today is Ada Lovelace Day! It’s a day to celebrate the incredible achievements of women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and recognize how far we’ve come. Ada Lovelace, the first computer programmer, laid the groundwork for women to make lasting contributions to these fields, and her legacy continues to inspire us today. My experience at Dexter Energy has shown me how vital it is to have a supportive environment where women in tech have the same voice and opportunities as men. Dexter fosters a culture of collaboration, growth, and inclusion, which isn’t always the norm in the tech world. It’s a place where everyone can thrive and feel heard—an example of how all workplaces should strive to empower women in STEM. As we celebrate today, let’s continue to support and uplift young women and girls who aspire to join STEM fields. There’s still work to be done, but every step toward inclusion matters. Together, we can build a future where women are equally represented and empowered 💪 .

Hermanas Diseña Tu Futuro: 20 Years of Impact In 2005, the program “Hermanas: Diseña Tu Futuro” (Sisters: Design Your Future) was created with three core goals: demystifying STEM, making it more accessible, and offering an invitation to girls who are often excluded from these opportunities. This innovative model focuses on addressing the needs of young women who typically don't get the chance to participate. The one-day conference introduces girls to various engineering fields, offers hands-on experiences, and provides informational sessions on preparing for academic and professional success, all within a safe, welcoming, and collaborative environment. This program continues to produce results and outcomes to this day. The design of the program was shaped by the realization that many girls are never invited to join STEM initiatives. Those who don’t show an interest in math, struggle academically, or fail to capture someone’s attention often miss out on these opportunities. For this reason, it was crucial to ensure the program reached girls who might otherwise never be included—those who may not excel in math or science, or who face challenges like family or financial issues, peer pressure, or other social struggles. The aim was to create an experience for girls who might never have the chance to engage with STEM unless they felt valued and motivated to participate. Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones! The grassroots events These can take many forms, including conferences, Wikipedia "edit-a-thons", and pub quizzes. The date The date was chosen to avoid major holidays, school holidays, exam season, and times when people might be hibernating. Ada Lovelace Lovelace was born in London in 1815 and was the daughter of the famous poet Lord Byron. She's considered one of the world's first programmers. In 1843, she collaborated with Charles Babbage on the Analytical Engine, one of the earliest concepts of a programmable computing machine.
