We are relieved that the Online Safety Act will address our concerns as parents and members of the teaching profession. For too long schools have been safe places, while childrens’ own rooms at home have been extremely dangerous. The irony of protecting our children indoors against the ‘bogeyman’ while they are in fact lurking in most corners of the worldwide web. Meteor EdTech has of course always done this; we vet tutors and ensure they have a valid and enhanced DBS check, we do identity and address checks across the globe, and ensure our site is two factor authenticated. "Millions of kids still skip school" is one statement, perhaps acknowledging maybe a self-preservation day for that child averse truanting or full-on escape, self-absentee / refusal!? The first question is why if, it's so inclusive then, why would they feel the need to escape captivity or be "Kickin-Off" a fight-flight stress response to engineer an exclusion !? Just a thought, from a UK perspective as, we found by far the majority of children referred to us or self-presenting to our community workshop projects were "functionally and digitally illiterate" yet, when enabled to be "Digitally Literate" with reasonable fluent reading rates on-screen the fear and anxiety linked to reading, writing and effectively exclusion from participating in learning, evaporated along with a change in behaviours and avoidance of any course work. Accepting around 20% were too broken the rest went on, depending on age, to either go to training, employment for the older ones or return to school initially day-release building to full-time with the provision of one day a week at the community workshop - simple'sss https://lnkd.in/dB__urn https://lnkd.in/epyjKgue
