We’ve got the role (or two) for you. 👀 We’re expanding our frontier-tech team at Blackbird by hiring a Frontier Tech Investments Associate and Foundry Fellows! Got questions? We've got answers... 1️⃣ What are the roles? 🧪 Associate = a full-time VC investment gig in our Blackbird Investments team, working directly with Michael Tolo. We’re looking for someone with a science and/or engineering background and more curiosity they can handle. You’ll grow your own investment brand and practice, support our portfolio founders, and will help build Foundry, our early-stage frontier-tech accelerator. ✨ Foundry Fellow = a casual/contract gig in our Blackbird Investments team, ~15h per week for 3 months. The Fellowship is ideal for PhD students and ECRs who want to learn more about startups and VC. You’ll go deep on emerging areas relevant to your expertise (or curiosity!), get a front-row seat to groundbreaking companies in those areas, build out your non-academic network, and develop a solid writing practice. 2️⃣ Why are you hiring? We love frontier tech, and we’re ready to grow our team. 3️⃣ Wow, it’s so great that you’re starting to look at deep tech! Look, we get it: we don’t make a lot of noise about our frontier-tech investing. Buuuut we’ve been deep-tech investors since we backed Tim Kentley-Klay to found Zoox back in 2014—we’ve been on incredible journeys with PsiQuantum, Inventia Life Science, Remedy Robotics, and more. We believe frontier technologies, and great frontier-tech investing, will be part of the solutions to the greatest problems humanity faces today. 4️⃣ When do applications close? May 31st at 11:59pm AEST. 5️⃣ I have more questions! I’m sure you do! Michael Tolo and Clare Birch are hosting an AMA to answer any and all questions about these roles. Just how hard is it finding talent in Deep Tech? Last week Fleur and I attended Cicada x Tech23 hosted by Cicada Innovations, the largest Deep Tech Festival in #Australia. In a panel hosted by Rupal Ismin, the panelists, all #Tech23 Founders, were asked whether finding talent was a challenge. The responses: Tim Vale, Telemattica: "Hiring is one of the top three things you are concerned about at any one time." Ruby Jones, Aquila - "When finding people in specific technical niches, it's about getting the word out." Daniel Griffin, Eco Shield Systems Pty Ltd - "It is hard to find specialised skills across multi-disciplines. If I could clone our CTO I would do so multiple times." At Sprout People we can't help clone the CTO, but we absolutely understand the mindsets required at each stage of a Deep Tech journey. And Tim's comment is 100% bang on. Finding the right people for the right stage of your growth is one of the key challenges for start-ups. As Ruby said, getting the word out is key. An online advertisement is not enough. We adopt a search approach to the majority of roles we recruit. At Sprout, we believe hiring is a team sport. We collaborate with our founders to untap our networks together in a coordinated way. If you are interested in learning more about our approach, drop Fleur Clough or myself a note. We would be happy to also introduce you to founders across the deep tech segments (food, agri, health, clean, build) that could talk to our approach to recruitment across Australia and NZ. #scaleup #deeptech #recruitment

When your new status on WeFunder displays "𝗔𝗟𝗠𝗢𝗦𝗧 𝗦𝗢𝗟𝗗 𝗢𝗨𝗧" next to a fire emoji (🔥) there really are no words. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻?! 👀 "This fundraise is or will soon be over-subscribed.
