The joining of Google Next Renew and OhmConnect signals some validation of an effort started some eight years ago. Championed by Dave Wechsler, Curtis Snyder and Jon Kaplowitz, we worked to develop a virtual power-plant by giving away XFINITY HOME connected thermostats in exchange for demand response agreements. With enough concentration this would prove to reduce consumption on demand. Unfortunately, initial success gave way to larger competing priorities. We must continue to invest in the nation's infrastructure in a way that benefits and rewards customers, improves reliability and reduces human impact on the environment. I'm eager to see how this partnership will deliver a substantial impact in energy efficiency, demand response, grid optimization, and customer engagement. It's a promising step. How do you think the merger of Google Nest Renew and OHMConnect will impact residential energy management? https://lnkd.in/ev_z2Wbz
Demand management has always been one of the best ways to solve a pressing problem in electric generation and distribution. Regulatory hurdles and consumer concerns (as well as poorly structured incentives for T&D providers) have long stood in the way. Markets are finally understanding this as major tech players continue to push forward. It's a great example of looking at FUTURE TAM versus current TAM. Large companies have the power to "make" markets. It's an exciting time in energy management (even though I don't look at it any more...)
"Unfortunately, initial success gave way to larger competing priorities." Diplomatically said sir.....

6mowe are watching this closely! a lot is about to happen esp with the demand of energy dramatically increasing b/c of ai and required processing speeds. This is not an easy market to move though!!!! and these groups already understand that - i mean its part of why these two are coming together to try something new. It will be very interesting to see WHEN the utilities really wake up to the necessary changes are energy distribution changes as a result of demand + cost - not yet here but its coming! the devices in the home will become great assets and this is also why the Vivint and NRG Energy deal is so very interesting -- and to see how they bring it all together with the many assets across security, energy devices, and energy distribution
