Ukraine There are no ifs: the Russians do not have the manpower to occupy Ukraine. They lost already more than 400,000 soldiers to occupy less than 20% of the country and would lose at least another 500,000 before they could reach the western borders of Ukraine. They would barely have enough soldier left to control the Kyiv and its surroundings. Furthermore, unlike what they projected before their invasion, they wouldn't be able to count on a larger number of Ukrainian collaborators ready to help them to pacify the country. In such a scenario, guerrilla warfare would be unavoidable. A guerrilla movement’s breeding ground is always the local poulation’s hate and resentment agaisnt the central government (in this case Moscow).

In 2022, the Russian invasion of Ukraine employed historical tactics reminiscent of the 1968 occupation of Czechoslovakia. A primary objective was the capture of critical infrastructure, including the Antonov Airport near Kyiv. However, this instance presented a different outcome. In contrast to the events at the Ruzyne Airport in Prague during 1968, the Ukrainian forces and local populace mounted a formidable defense. 💪 They successfully repelled the Russian forces, preventing them from maintaining control of the airport. 🇺🇦 The defense of the Antonov Airport stands as a testament to the courage of the Ukrainian people. Oksana Markarova, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, and I had a very productive meeting today discussing Western chips being diverted to Russian and Iranian weapons being used in the war. We explored ways to discover and use data that can help focus efforts to interrupt the commercial flow of chips into weapons built by adversaries, including specific and concrete actions that Ukraine can take now to help reduce the consequences of this challenge. 💔 Russian forces attacked a residential building in Kharkiv with a guided aerial 𝐛𝐨𝐦𝐛. 33 people were 𝐢𝐧𝐣𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝, including 3 children. This 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐫 continues daily. Apparently, "Great russian culture" is about randomly targeting residential buildings in #Ukraine with drones, bombs and missiles to 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐞 families on a Sunday afternoon. Because Christian conservative values etc 🤨 This is what you support when you share pro-Putin memes and argue why the west should make concessions to this "strong leader" 🚀 Anyone arguing that strikes on Russian #military infrastructure inside Russia will not change anything, should come and visit eastern Ukraine. Russia will continue striking Kharkiv just because it can. It will stop only when it doesn't have this opportunity anymore. 🚫 Forbidding Ukraine to use long-range weapons inside Russia means accepting that russia will continue to 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐞 civilians unopposed It means tolerating and accepting 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐫. Two years ago on February 24, 2022 Russia egregiously invaded Ukraine and it has been deemed the largest attack on a European country since World War II. There have been at least 500,000 troops killed on both sides in the atrocity. It may be much worse given the fact that Moscow has been known to undercount its casualties and Kyiv does not disclose official figures.1 As of now, Russia has control of ~20% of Ukraine and the fighting does not look to be letting up.
