#SEOtip: Google Can sometimes index the URL, if you have both "Noindex " on the page and blocked that URL in Robots.txt. This happens because crawlers won't be able to access the webpage header due to robots.txt, and if crawler is able to find the URL through links from another site ( Backlinks ). What is a robots.txt file? A robots.txt file guides search engine crawlers on which URLs they can access on your site. Its purpose is to prevent your site from being overloaded with requests. However, a robots.txt file is not a method for keeping a web page out of Google.

How Google Treats robots.txt HTTP Responses I'm currently working on an article that explores the nuances of how Google interprets robots.txt and best practicies I've created a visual representation to illustrate this concept, and I can't wait to share it with you! Here’s a sneak peek of how Google responds to different HTTP status codes of robots.txt: 200 OK file is processed as received. 3XX (Redirection) crawler follows up to 5 redirects, after which it treats it as a 404. 4XX (Client Errors) treated as if no robots.txt file exists, except for a 429 status code. 5XX (Server Errors) if the site remains unreachable for over 30 days, the crawler uses the last cached version. Which robot are you today? Me? Definitely a 5XX Status Code Robot—always a bit out of service! 😂

Thought may be its useful to explain - robots.txt file stops overloading in server for various types of urls hit while meta robot noindex tells search engine not to index the url. They both have different meaning and work hence lets not mix them .

The report now shows files found by Google, the last time it was crawled and also any warnings/errors. It also enables you to request a recrawl of a robots.txt file for emergency situations, along with the previous fetched version in the last 30 days (which is a nice addition). Overall, this looks like a nice upgrade from the previous robots.txt tester which was quite hidden and rarely used by SEOs in my experience. You can take a look at the new report through clicking Settings > Crawling > Robots.txt.

Difference Between Meta Tag Robots & X-Robots-Tag! Both do similar things - controlling how search engines handle your webpage - but One is like a note on the webpage itself, while the other is like a hidden message sent with the webpage.. And the key differences lie in their implementation methods (HTML meta tag vs. HTTP header) and the level of control they offer.
