If you’ve ever worked with me, you know I’ve always been a fierce advocate for my team, a problem solver, a bringer of solutions, and an innovative worker who gets results. I never hesitated to train others, to speak up when it mattered, share knowledge, or bring wellness practices into the workplace, even when it wasn't celebrated. Yoga, meditation, wellness, and joy were my contributions, even when the focus was too often on the color of my skin instead of the outcomes I delivered. And let me tell you, I consistently delivered results! I know firsthand the glass ceiling and the glass cliff, but I always aimed to leave every company or organization better than I found it, building relationships and fostering safe environments along the way. When I had the privilege to lead, I ensured my team had their own system of care. Two questions I always asked in interviews: "How do you care for yourself during times of overwhelm?" and "How do you create safe, collaborative environments at work?" These questions matter because healing isn’t just personal; it’s collective, and it starts with how we show up for each other. Check out the post below from my biz, Beauty Boone. Let’s keep pushing for workplaces that honor the whole person and not just profits and shareholders. #HealingInTheWorkplace #SafeSpaces #WorkplaceWellness #BeautyBoone #CollectiveCare #GlassCeiling #GlassCliff #WorkplaceHealing
"Healing is an act of courage, and creating a space for it is a community effort." - Izetta Henderson (Beauty Boone) Imagine the workplace as a village, a place where employees form the community and support one another. Healing doesn’t just happen in isolation; it requires a shift in culture, a collective effort to make workplaces environments that foster well-being, respect, and growth. When we think of our teams as a community, we understand the importance of creating safe spaces where individuals feel valued and heard. What if we embraced the idea that true productivity stems from an environment where people can bring their whole selves to work without fear of judgment? This means setting boundaries, celebrating diverse voices, and building a culture where healing and growth are prioritized. It takes courage to advocate for this shift, but together, we can make workplaces spaces of genuine connection and support. Let’s envision and actively work towards a future where the workplace village supports everyone’s healing journey, because every act of collective care is an act of empowerment for all. How does your workplace create safe spaces for its community members to grow? Share your thoughts in comments and inspire change. ✨ Join Thema Bradford, M.A., LMHC and I at Healing in Hue! ✨ Companies committed to providing these types of safe, nurturing spaces for their employees can take part by purchasing group tickets to Healing in Hue. This event can be an incredible opportunity to gift your team a space for reflection, empowerment, and community-driven healing. #HealingInTheWorkplace #SafeSpaces #CollectiveCare #WorkplaceCulture #HealingInHue #BeautyBoone #CommunityEffort #GrowthMindset #InclusiveWorkplaces #ESCCC

Being Cockney can be good for your health - likewise for Brum, Geordie, Scouse, and Weegie - with evidence revealing how your sense of identity is a foundation for a better sense of self-belief, confidence, and purpose, according to leading health and well-being experts. In post-Brexit Britain, where regional identities are under threat from mass media and negative social stereotyping, supporting local identities like Cockney - the ‘non-posh Londoner’- can help people’s well-being if given active support, as well as helping to assert a sense of ‘Britishness’ at a time of ambiguity and uncertainty around national identities. The Modern Cockney Festival is bringing together one of the UK’s top experts in well-being, Professor Vincent Deary, along with Dr. Christopher Strelluf, in an online event ‘How being a Cockney can make you healthier’ at 12 noon on Friday March 22nd. It highlights the potential benefits of shared social identities, like Cockney, based on positive, inclusive values, can be a powerful force for a greater sense of togetherness and for communities to be more mutually supportive. The issue is pertinent to all regional identities across the UK. We believe that unless these identities are recognised for their positive and relevant value to the needs of modern-day life, their decline will continue. Book you free ticket here: https://lnkd.in/eFn9Cmkn Discover more about how you can transform how you feel about yourself. How do you feel about your social identity? Do you have a sense of pride? Or is it ambivalent, even negative? #SocialIdentity #SocialCapital #SocialImpact #Wellbeing #Cockney #ModernCockneyFestival #HowWeBreak

Our new publication in Practicing Anthropology with Debi Chess and Desiree Hammond features an honest conversation about the outcomes of a multi-year collaboration and the barriers to doing racial justice and health equity work. Abstract: Antiracist scholars and practitioners continue to interrogate the relationship between place and health amid decades of discriminatory policies and anti-Black spatial logics in the United States. Troubled by the continuation of worsening health disparities, especially along lines of race, some scholars and practitioners have turned to placemaking as a framework for guiding community health initiatives. From 2019 to 2021, the Dunbar Wellness Project, based in Tucson, Arizona, was a community-based health and wellness project that sought to reclaim and affirm a Black sense of place while exploring the root causes of racialized health inequities, increasing self-determination around health and wellness, and uplifting and honoring ancestral and collective care practices that have been foundational to community survival. This article features a conversation among core members of the Dunbar Wellness Project team in which they reflect on the challenges, successes, and broader outcomes of the project.

Amidst rising levels of cruelty, war and conflict on our planet let's always remember to be more human, even more so in our workplaces. In times of uncertainty - empathy, compassion, and understanding are not just ‘nice to have’ corporate values, but essential tools for fostering resilience and unity. Let's strive to INTENTIONALLY create workplaces where kindness and solidarity prevail, making a positive impact beyond just our professional realms to root us of back to our collective humanity. #humanworkplace
