At hold point, surveyor and entire team is suppose to check all previous operations have been completed and meet the requirements of the next steps to be performed. A formal clearance is required in case dimensions are sited on assembly or a set up is being done with close clearance. Normally once we allow or clear a hold point and proceed with next operation it is difficult to inspect or measure and hence it is hold point. Witness is when you have given permission to conduct an operation you want to ensure that necessary hygiene is followed while operations. You may physically witness it or virtual or even you can witness it post the completion of operation based on your confidence and the situation. Many times even document verification also suffices the witnessing.

The update includes further information regarding the competency required to carry out rope access equipment inspection. The IRATA rope access qualifications are not sufficient, in isolation, to provide all of the necessary skills to undertake detailed inspections of equipment to the requirements of the manufacturers’ specifications, in accordance with the regional requirements, and the specific applications for use. It is therefore, essential that additional training is undertaken to supplement the IRATA rope access qualification. The training should be specific to the equipment, to the manufacturers’ specification and specific for the intended use. Competency requirements should be identified by the employer, and training and inspection records should be kept to demonstrate compliance at audit. Consideration for Regional, National and Local Government regulations must also be considered.

In my opinion, I would and have always clamored for a seamless #system where #compatency is taught in the #training centers alongside #IRATA #ropeaccess #training because basically how do you send #technicians to the #field incompetent? I understand that at some point #technicians should #upskill however this could be an #independent decision or perhaps a #CSR advantage from the #employer/#thirdpartycontractor to get #business going. Within #Africa, the numbers are growing aggressively with fresh #L3 venturing into the market as a #safetysupervisor probably with less/weak #experiences as a #L1/#L2 as the case may be. I think it's important for this to be incorporated into the system right from the #training session to completely instill #quality and #safety!
