Great to hear from the Google Search team about handling duplicate content in Google Search! Canonicalization is definitely an important tool in ensuring that the right version of a page is displayed in search results. It's interesting to consider how canonicalization and internationalization work together, especially with the rise of global businesses and multilingual websites. I wonder if there are any best practices for handling duplicate content across different language versions of a website? Looking forward to learning more!
One of the most misunderstood and mysterious elements of tech SEO, and something I absolutely love to dig in on. Can't wait to listen!
It's pretty neat that this feature can potentially supply a user with the version of the page that is in their preferred regional dialect!
Fascinating topic! Duplicate content has always been a tricky area—how does your team balance between user experience and technical considerations when addressing canonicalization?

1w"Marauding black hole" sounds really scary ! And that immediately rang a bell. One of my customers currently deals with the following problem. What does the community think? Is this due to a "marauding black hole"? For years, this job offer site has created distinct pages for specific recurrent job searches using URL parameters such as www. greenjobs .de/angebote/index.html?sq=3001 Starting Nov 6th, Google has started to consider these pages as "Duplicate, Google chose different canonical than user" and uses the URL without URL parameter as canonical as if it has decided that the URL parameter sq= is no longer relevant. User-declared canonical www. greenjobs .de/angebote/index.html?sq=3001 Google-selected canonical www. greenjobs .de/angebote/index.html This has affected more than 150 distinct URLs, which all feature the URL parameter sq=. This decision is quite nonsensical as the pages with sq= URL parameter show job offers for a specific search (jobs in the 🇩🇪 German Land of Baden-Württemberg in the example above), while the page without URL parameter is the site's main search form. Hence, no human user will say that both URLs are duplicates!
