The NHS is under significant pressure, especially at GP surgeries, which often serve as the first point of contact for many patients. However, a substantial number of GP appointments are being used for self-treatable conditions. According to the PAGB, the consumer healthcare association’s 2024 Self-Care Census report, 75% of these appointments result in advice to use over-the-counter (OTC) medicines. #PharmacyFirst is a fantastic initiative to guide these patients towards pharmacies for their needs. It's now crucial for OTC brands to help educate patients on identifying and treating self-treatable conditions, directing them to their local pharmacy for assistance. At Brand Champions, we collaborate with PAGB and numerous OTC brands to develop effective patient communications and increase healthcare professional awareness. If you need support in creating disease awareness materials, pharmacist training resources, or patient communications, please get in touch. #BrandChampions #OTCMarketing

But remember: you can have them do it for you too, and that's just as good of a solution too. Collaborative Practice Agreements (CPAs) can be the key to unlocking new care offerings at your pharmacy — but often, require understanding state-specific regulations and working directly with a provider. Scripted makes it easy by connecting pharmacists to providers and automating the agreement-writing process. But whether you're using Scripted to handle your CPAs or going it alone, we've broken down the entire CPA authorship process on our site so that more pharmacies can bring more care to more patients. The FTC has taken a major step by suing top Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) for inflating insulin prices. AWIR, through our partnership with ATAP, has been leading the charge for PBM reform, advocating for greater transparency and ensuring drug pricing benefits patients—not middlemen. We’re fighting to pass comprehensive reforms that will hold PBMs accountable and protect patients’ access to affordable medications. 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗹: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗣𝗕𝗠𝘀? • More administrative burden on providers to ensure patients have access to medications • Increased out-of-pocket costs • Lack of transparency • Disruption of continuity of care Tell us below and join AWIR’s push for meaningful PBM reform today: https://lnkd.in/e2n6eHAa #PBMReform #DrugPricing #PatientAdvocacy #AWIR

Would you like to optimise your STATIN doses? Well, here is how you do it! Last week I told you to be like Somerset To save you all the trouble of calling/emailing/faxing Somerset statin HQ - I contacted Shaun Green, NHS Somerset Chief Pharmacist, for you. I’m paraphrasing slightly but here is how they did it 1. They told their prescribing leads about the change to NICE guidance! There is a lot of guidance out there, so choosing which highlights to share is one of the important things you do as a meds management team. 2. In April 2020, they introduced the statin measure into their annual prescribing incentive scheme Spot the when the change happened - similar date 3. They asked spoke to the hospitals and asked them to start people on high intensity statins Previously the hospitals had been starting on lower intensity statins with expectation that at some point it would be increased. Getting hospitals on board with changes can help as a lot of recommendations for ongoing treatments come from a hospital. 4. They contextualised the statin use amongst their local population They grabbed a lot of nationally available inform #CVDPREVENT and shared this with prescribers to highlight the importance of prevention amongst Somerset's ageing population There you have it, good old fashioned Medicines Management principles , developed over the last few decades by teams in CCGs, PCTs, PCGs - and executed well in Somerset to optimise stain doses. Bravo to everyone involved!

Well done NHS! A subscription model for antibiotics is in place so pharma companies received an annual fixed fee for prescribing instead of compensation based on volumes sold. Perhaps a disincentive to promote overuse of broad spectrum antibiotics, especially for women presenting with UTI? This model follows the Government's 5-year plan to tackle AMR. #NHS #AMR #primarycare #uti #womenshealth #overprescribing #WHO NHS England NPA - National Pharmacy Association AMR Insights Wellcome Trust The Wellcome Foundation Limited World Health Organization Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation The UK Sepsis Trust Sepsis Alliance Wellbeing of Women Antibiotic Research UK Royal College of Physicians Royal College of General Practitioners Royal College of Nursing - Company

HELLO CONNECTIONS World Pharmacists Day (25 September) marks the anniversary of the inception of FIP in 1912 and was adopted by the FIP Council in 2009. As such, the World Pharmacists Day campaign is led by FIP every year, with the theme chosen by the FIP Bureau. In 2020, FIP also created World Pharmacy Week, extending the celebrations of the entire profession and overtly encompassing all sectors of the pharmacy profession. Any reference to “World Pharmacists Day” or “World Pharmacy Week” should, therefore, include FIP. Pharmacists are integral to our health-care systems, often being the first point of contact for health advice and primary health care, as well as addressing the health needs of our populations in many varied ways, including: *Ensuring access to and providing guidance on essential medicines and medical devices, including diagnostic tests and assistive products *providing expertise for patient care and public health; promoting disease prevention, such as by administering vaccines, conducting health screening, educating patients, and helping to improve health literacy. *Supporting public health campaigns. Participating in the research and development of new medicines. leading in pharmacovigilance, for instance, ensuring the safety and efficacy of antibiotics and other medicines. *Implementing greener ways of working and addressing the impacts of environmental factors on health. #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinking #snsdesignthinkers
