I've hit the mark of 5 years at KPMG! 🎉 When I first joined, I had no idea what to expect. I didn't know how long I would stay or what I would get from this experience. The Firm has changed a lot since then, but some things have stayed the same. It’s been such an invaluable learning experience both personally and professionally. I would like to share three of my top lessons learned throughout these years. 1) Put People First: We have had a few ups and downs but by prioritising employees has always helped keep a positive work environment. When you acknowledge and appreciate the skills of each team member, they would always flourish in their roles. It brings immense joy to see when employees proactively work for their goals and team growth. 2) Collaborate Effectively: Collaborate with in your team and across different departments to gain a deeper understanding of the organisation and to benefit from shared knowledge. Solicit your team’s ideas and engage them in discussions to build better strategies and create an inclusive team. 3) Embrace Continuous Learning: Keep learning throughout your career. Seek feedback to acquire new skills and improve in areas where you can excel. Actively sharing your knowledge not only benefits others but also enhances engagement and fosters a positive team culture. 🎉 Celebrating 6 months in my new role 🎉 I'm delighted to say I've hit the 6-month mark in the Operations PMO Team at BDO UK LLP - the time has really flown and I'm thrilled to share some key highlights and lessons learned. I'm also honoured to have received the "Doing things better (Quality) Jedi" award for Continuous Improvement. It's great to work in an environment that not only fosters Continuous Improvement, but celebrates and recognises when it works. 📋 Key Takeaways from the past 6 months: 1. Meeting New People - I've had the pleasure of building relationships with so many talented individuals, its been invaluable. 2. Culture is Key - Over the last 6 months, I have been given the trust and freedom to define my own work and drive projects in a way that works best for me and the team (shout out to my manager, Alex Gooding for his support in this). This has helped to motivate me and ensure that the work I do is delivering value. 3. Leading training - Already having the chance to lead multiple "lunch & learn" sessions has been a rewarding experience, pushing me out of my comfort zone and helping me grow both professionally and personally. It's been slightly terrifying, but amazing and a lot of fun to share my knowledge! Today, I had an amazing opportunity where I attended an Alumni Mentorship Program organised by Precious Sisters. The topic of the day was our Expectations as young People verses the Reality. This was aligned to world of work given that most of us are transitioning to the job market. We were privileged to have KPMG team and our mentor Maria Simiyu who shared some of the realities the Human Resource are looking for before hiring the job candidates. The following are some of my takeaways from today's Mentorship; 1. I have to be fully aware of the current trends in the job market and know the skills and competence that I will bring on board. 2. I have to be prepared to serve the global market as many organizations have adapted global perspective in their operations. 3. I need to know my industry.  4. Long life learning mindset is a key thing.   5. I need to focus, always be present where I am, and do my best. 6. Finally, I need to be a critical thinker and a problem solver. Many organizations don't want people who can only identify problems but they need people who can come up with solutions as well. It was a day full of learning and networking. Thanks to Rosemary Wambui and Precious Sisters at large for planning and facilitating such an amazing event.

Just returning back from Global Senior Manager Milestone training at Deloitte University - energized, humbled and impressed. I met amazing people from different EMEA countries, shared insights, and had some fun. Big "Thank you" goes to all my colleagues and our great facilitators Jenefer Morgan CA(SA) MBA and Jürgen Lademann for their insights, openess and mainly very honest Real Talk session. And special thanks goes to Martin Laws for a great and useful feedback on my unique value proposition. My key takeaways/thoughts to be reminded later on: 1. Perfect is enemy of good. 2. It is important to know what makes you stand out. 3. Do not start with a roadmap if you do not have a goal/objective in your mind. 4. Fishing for projects at the beginning of relationship is not helpful for anyone. 5. If you want to start start something new, you need to stop doing something else.
