Apple Wallet support for digital IDs is now available in 7 US states. After starting with Ohio and some other states, the functionality was rolled out to California and now to Hawaii. Anyone with an iPhone in these states can add their State ID or Driver's License to the wallet by: 1. Tapping the "+" icon at the top right corner. 2. Selecting "Driver’s License" or "State ID". You can add it to both your iPhone and Apple Watch for convenience or only to the iPhone. Apple says that you can use this functionality to show proof of age or identity at businesses and venues, and travel with it at the TSA checkpoints that accept digital IDs (these include airports in major states like California, New York, Texas, etc). As far as I'm aware, this is only for IDs and driver's licenses. Apple Wallet doesn't allow passports yet. Looks like Google and others are playing catch-up! Image: 9to5mac

🍏 Mobile wallet providers and developers will be interested to hear that the European Commission has accepted Apple’s commitments to: ✅ Provide access to NFC functionality on the iPhone to third parties for free.  Access will be provided in Host Card Emulation mode, which other mobile wallets already use in the Android environment; ✅ Provide access to the iPhone's Double-Click functionality and ID verification technology such as Face ID, Touch ID and passcode; ✅ Allow iPhone users to select their default mobile wallet; and ❌ Not prevent developers from combining NFC payments with other use cases, e.g., transit cards, access control, concert tickets, digital identity credentials. This investigation is an example of how EU competition enforcement can, and will, overlap with the Digital Markets Act. The DMA already requires gatekeepers to, among other things, ensure effective interoperability with hardware and software features that they use within their ecosystems. Apple has until 25 July 2024 to implement the commitments, which will remain in place for ten years.   #DMA #Competition #MHC

Apple Pay introduces even more flexibility and choice for users when they check out online and in-app. Users can view and redeem rewards, and access instalment loan offerings from eligible credit or debit cards, when making a purchase online or in-app with iPhone and iPad.1 These features will be available for any Apple Pay–enabled bank or issuer to integrate in supported markets. The ability to redeem rewards for a purchase with Apple Pay will be available beginning in the US with Discover and Synchrony, and across Apple Pay issuers with Fiserv. The ability to access instalments from credit and debit cards with Apple Pay will roll out starting in Australia with ANZ; in Spain with CaixaBank; in the UK with HSBC and Monzo; and in the US with Citi, Synchrony and issuers with Fiserv.
