Congratulations to Amanda Peterson Corio and team on the announcement of a first-of-its kind approach to co-locate new clean energy generation with datacenter development! At Google, we’re working hard to power AI solutions with 24/7 carbon-free energy to responsibly unlock the transformative potential of AI to accelerate scientific breakthroughs, predict and reduce the impacts of natural disasters, and build smarter energy systems. We know that doing so requires innovative new approaches and strong collaborations - and that’s why this partnership Intersect Power-power and TPG is so critical to accelerating the deployment of clean energy. This scalable model will not only help us meet our energy objectives, but can help create more reliable grids for all energy customers. Kate Brandt It is my understanding that Google has co-located a wind farm at your us-central1 data center in Iowa for years and that the energy from the grid this facility consumes remains at nearly 100%. If true, this is what we call offsetting, which is not a reduction in GHG-emitting power generation. Please correct me if I am wrong! #Greenwashing

3dWhile Google’s ambition to use 24/7 carbon-free energy is admirable, achieving this goal entirely may still rely on offsets or indirect methods, such as renewable energy credits or contracts, which do not necessarily mean the data centres are always directly powered by clean energy. #Greenwashing
