Femtech is mostly bullshit. Bullshit spun by conference organizers, VCs, and corporations jumping on a conversation that is edgy but that is not turning into real-world transactions the hype would make you assume are happening. We have the data. And then there's those that do the work. Like Dr. Sioned Fôn Jones at BoobyBiome, Hannah Samano at Unfabled and Alice Pelton at The Lowdown. I had the privilege to moderate the panel Femtech Heroes: Untold Stories at Decoding the Future of Women conference this month. My goal was to energize those in the audience who wanted to start up their own Femtech companies. However, as the session progressed, we, for once, decided to tell real, raw stories instead of "focusing on the positive," as we tend to do in public speaking. Their stories about fundraising, managing real life with modest salaries, and being solo female founders were sobering, and I think some of the aspiring startup founders in the room walked out a bit less energized than when they walked in. And that may be a good thing. Our time, funds, and sanity are valuable. Think twice before you quit your job to become a Femtech founder. Again, data shows that the odds are not on our side. I ask us, Femtech founders and operators, to call on the bullshit we are hearing and getting so we can make real progress. I wish you all a good weekend with restful sleep, you know what I mean ❤️

YASSS!!! Say it louder! Very similar to my rant of today.. not so much focussed on femtech but data & tech across all industries - especially women’s health xx Post here: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/karlibuchling_motivation-technology-innovation-activity-7212364362441703424-HPyG

Laura Vidal Borrell, MBA, MTH I have to say of all the panel discussions at Decoding the Future of Women, this was one of my favourites, thank you for being such a great host! I loved the authenticity and openness of the panel, sharing personal stories, the challenges, and let's face it pure grafting required to make positive change happen. Personality, passion, need, user-centric, science, and data really stood out for me.

I felt quite relieved whilst listening to this panel of honest, realistic women who shared the practical challenges of start-ups and the scaling up of their businesses. The reality of running a business combined with motherhood really resonated with me. This kinds of discussions allow more women to feel validated and seen on their own journeys. Here’s to more vulnerability in sharing at conferences and not pretending that it’s all plain sailing!

I loved this panel for it's honesty and realness and I loved the way you chaired it. Thank you for that. In the end it's mostly about doing the work. Nothing comes for free. I personally left more energised, not less, from hearing what you have all put into your businesses and the commitment you're making to building things that are important. Entrepreneurship is not a straightforward journey.

I was one of the lucky people to be in the audience of this amazing panel. The struggles are real. Thank you all for your honesty. You, Laura Vidal Borrell, MBA, MTH, are one of the most amazing professionals I have come across in my career, and people like you will no doubt always go places (even though it might not always be straightforward). Have a great weekend!
