Global Adoption of Gen AI: China Takes the Lead
A recent survey by SAS and Coleman Parkes Research, involving 1,600 industry decision-makers worldwide, reveals China's dominance in gen AI adoption. The study shows that 83% of Chinese organisations are currently utilising gen AI in some capacity, significantly surpassing the global average of 54%. This puts China well ahead of other major economies, including the UK (70%), the United States (65%), and Australia (63%).
However, the data requires closer examination. The figures encompass both organisations that have fully implemented gen AI across their operations and those still in the testing phase. When considering only enterprise-wide implementation, the United States leads with 24% of organisations, compared to China's 19%. Both countries significantly outpace the global average of 11% for comprehensive gen AI deployment.

🚀 AI in China: Key Insights from Robin Li’s Interview at Viva Technology Conference 🚀
❤️During the Viva Technology in Paris, Robin Li, the chairman and CEO of Baidu, Inc., shared profound insights into the current and future landscape of #AI in #China.
Here are the highlights:
🌟Application-Driven Approach: Unlike the US and Europe, China’s #AI development is driven by practical applications. This approach focuses on creating technology that can be integrated into daily life, aiming for widespread adoption and utility.
🌟User Engagement: While Western countries are working on developing powerful foundation models, #China is keen on finding the “killer app” for #AI. The goal is to create AI-native applications that can attract billions of daily active users.
🌟Current Progress: Baidu, Inc.’s language model, Ernie, has already accumulated 22 million users across various applications, showcasing significant growth and engagement in AI-powered services.
🌟Data Utilization: Access to and processing of data is crucial. In China, there’s a strong focus on effectively managing and processing data to train #AI models efficiently.
🌟Global Leadership: Li believes that while the US and China are leaders in #AI, there’s ample opportunity for other regions, like Europe and specifically France, to excel, particularly in language-specific AI applications.
🌟Future of AI: Despite advancements, Li emphasizes that #AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) is still a decade away. The focus remains on solving real-world problems and improving current #AI capabilities incrementally.
🌟Challenges and Opportunities: Li highlights the potential of generative #AI to significantly boost #productivity and economic growth. However, he also expresses concerns about the pace of technological progress, advocating for faster development to meet global needs.
Robin Li’s insights underscore the dynamic nature of #AI development and the unique strategies adopted by different regions. As #AI continues to evolve, the emphasis on practical applications and global #collaboration will be key to unlocking its full potential.

AI Sentiment Through a Country-by-Country Lens
The chart illustrates global sentiments toward artificial intelligence (AI) across various countries, highlighting a spectrum of excitement and concern. Here are some key insights:
1. High Excitement in Asia:
- China (56%) and Indonesia (49%) show the highest levels of excitement towards AI, indicating a strong optimism and potential for growth in these regions.
2. Mixed Feelings in Southeast Asia:
- Countries like Thailand (44%) and Saudi Arabia (42%) also exhibit significant excitement, suggesting a favorable environment for AI adoption.
3. Moderate Excitement in Latin America:
- Mexico (25%) and Brazil (24%) have lower but notable excitement levels, indicating opportunities for AI development, albeit with more caution.
4. Lower Excitement in Developed Countries:
- Countries like the US (-10%), UK (-12%), France (-21%), and Australia (-23%) show negative net excitement, reflecting more concern and skepticism about AI, possibly due to fears over job displacement and ethical issues.
5. Net Excitement Scores:
- Net excitement is calculated by subtracting the percentage of concerned respondents from the excited ones. Countries with positive scores (e.g., China, Indonesia) may present near-term opportunities for businesses in the AI sector, while those with negative scores (e.g., France, Australia) might require more effort to address public concerns.
6. Potential for Engagement:
- Regions with higher excitement could be targeted for AI initiatives, investments, and partnerships, while countries with high concern might need educational outreach and discussions to alleviate fears and build trust in AI technologies.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is hailed as one of the most important technological developments in modern history.
To take advantage of it, experts say that these three elements are needed: entrepreneurs to bring about breakthrough innovations, companies to provide financial resources and infrastructure, and government policies that provide the appropriate environment.
Japan is a prime example of this synergy.
When the nation transformed itself into an economic powerhouse after the second world war, it was driven by the belief that industry and government should work together as partners, rather than viewing each other as adversaries.
Japan’s breakthroughs in innovation have demonstrated the value of this approach, and the country continues to produce leadership in major industries worldwide.
Now, in a strategic move to address its shrinking workforce caused by a declining birth rate and ageing population, Japan is embracing a future powered by digital technology and groundbreaking tools that utilise AI.
#AI, #Innovation and #Culture - 3 of my favorite topics, which I had the opportunity to discuss today with Bloomberg Media at the ANA GLOBAL CMO GROWTH COUNCIL in Singapore.
In Kyndryl, predictive AI, machine learning, and GenAI are all integral elements to manage large and complex infrastructures, increasing reliability and efficiency across a broad set of use cases.
As cultural values play a key role in driving innovation and GenAI adoption, we deliberately focus on treasuring talents that are restless to continuously anticipate, learn and innovate - and serve with trust and transparency.
All this was discussed in the context of #Asia, where 3 factors are driving and accelerating innovation, specifically in the AI domain:
1) a unique digital ecosystem, with “super-app” like Wechat, Grab;
2) demographics, as the median age is 32yo vs 42 in Europe;
3) investments in AI IP development, with China leading 2x vs US.
