Experts are skeptical of the development of nuclear energy in Australia backed by clear facts and research. The politicians need to accept the clear facts, avoiding unnecessary policies that will affect the future of energy in Australia

Government policy and strategy should align with public demands and needs. Nuclear power will likely increase costs by 400%. Nuclear power will not reduce greenhouse gas pollution at all for twenty or thirty years Nuclear power will produce some of the most toxic waste known to humanity. Wind and solar will likely reduce household energy bills, produce no pollution and are available right now. Duttons toxic nuclear policy will damage the Australian economy, families, business and the environment. Utter nonsense. Is it too much to ask our politicians to focus on the issues rhat matter to society and business? “If we were to have a nuclear-based system (supplemented by gas to meet the higher demands in the mornings and evenings), the costs would likely be much higher – potentially as much as three to four times” Monash report here: https://lnkd.in/e7UqHbdA.

Now that new coal plants in “greenfield” investment are prohibited, with the continuing low and pathetic output from wind-solar-biomass, and with new gas plants which are still insufficient to fulfill high power demand, the government and the public must learn to appreciate the value of nuclear energy. Nuclear power will help avoid blackouts in the future, and provide clean and stable 24/7 electricity for the country’s rising demand and fast economic growth.

#nuclear #climatechange Japan needs to import about 90% of its energy requirements. Its first commercial nuclear power reactor began operating in mid-1966, and nuclear energy has been a national strategic priority since 1973. This came under review following the 2011 Fukushima accident but has been confirmed. Up until 2011, Japan was generating some 30% of electricity from its reactors and this was expected to increase to at least 40% by 2017. The plan is now for at least 20% by 2030, from a depleted fleet. 13 reactors have restarted. 12 reactors are currently in the process of restart approval. Interesting that Japan is restarting their program. https://lnkd.in/gaEe9nfM

Many countries are beginning to realize that intermittent power sources cannot supply their energy needs, and though less commonly admitted, the environmental damage done by the manufacturing and disposal processes for wind and solar are also a concern. There is no "path to zero" without nuclear, and I am glad to see this industry trending in a positive direction.
